We use PAWS in Laurel Manor and are very happy with the people there. We have an indoor cat and she needs her nails trimmed every now and then whether it's up north or in TV . She is a MONSTER when it comes to getting her nails done and it's hit and miss proposition with anyone.....but we love our kitty.

Live Oak in Summerfield . It's about 20 miles away but you won't regret going there. They have the most caring staff I've ever been around and I'll challenge anyone to beat their prices!

We have been really happy with Dr. Kelly Vernon at Buffalo Ridge.

I think that Vet costs are fairly similar for offices within The Villages.
I've found that Vets' fees in the Ocala area tend to be lower.
But we like our Vet in Wildwood and he is convenient, so that's our preference.

Buffalo Ridge has a 24 hour emergency service at their original location (just off CR 466).
They seem to have a well-run office, and now they have a second location.
You don't have to be a client to use the emergency service.

When we moved here last year, we started going to Buffalo Ridge and saw Dr. Rakes. Unfortunately, Dr. rakes is no longer there. We had read good things about Kelly Vernon and subsequently made an appointment with her for our kitties annual exam and shots.
Our cats never go out. They are strictly inside cats. Since this is the case, we do not get rabies shots for them. My husband took our cats in to see Dr. Vernon for their annual check-up. To make a long story short and in no uncertain terms, Dr. Vernon said she would not examine our cats unless she gave them a rabies shot.
My husband felt as though he was being held prisoner (my way or the highway), was embarrassed by this vet's condescending attitude and I have a strong feeling they will not see his face again. I think we will find out where Dr. Rakes is currently working. She was great!

Agreed. We're very pleased with Dr. Shearer and his staff.

Affordable = ?
Like very many other things be prepared to spend more for the same (of many products and services) in TV.

Mulberry Grove Vets are knowledgeable, reasonable and have a great staff for cats and dogs. The Guide Dog Foundation recommended them when we volunteered to be a puppy raiser. She is now 2.5 years old and we continue with their service since she is now back with us because she didn't make it through the final selection process. As a result, we have a wonderful and loving addition to our home and feel that Mulberry Grove is the best place for her future care.

I am looking for a new vet. We had been using the colony animal hospital. Every time you take your doc there even if it is just for a simple routine shot they charge you a $40 exam fee, even if they just saw the dog last week.

Dr. Rakes actually went to Live Oak.
By the way, from the Sumter County website:
All dogs, cats, and/or ferrets in Sumter County are required by law to be licensed and vaccinated against rabies.
To ask a professional to break the law puts them in a bad position. I take my dogs to Dr. Vernon and find her to be very good.

Yes, I am aware of the law.
I don't know of a county that doesn't have this same law.
I am not questionning the credentials of Dr. Vernon.
What didn't sit well with my husband was her attitude.
Like my father always said, "It isn't what you say, it's the way you say it."
She was rude and condescending and by the way, didn't even touch upon what was law.
