The asphalt is hotter than you know where. Dogs are on leashes panting away. I want to scoop these doggies up and hold them because their paws must be burning. Please owners, if you aren't sure if the pavement is too hot then walk barefoot yourself first and if it feels ok to you then.......

These people should try handstands where their dogs have to walk on their paws or at least bend down and touch the ground with their hands.

Yes, I saw them all over the Farmers' Market this morning-even though there were signs posted to remind them the temp of the asphalt is 160 degrees.
Poor things!

And do not lock your dogs in a hot car. Even for a few minutes.
It's a death sentence. And it's against the law.

Actually, dogs' paws are much less sensitive to heat and cold then people's feet are. My dog had no problem on the hot Lake Michigan beach when I would be jumping up and down and grabbing for my sandals.

But I don't see any reason to walk a dog on sun-drenched pavement, especially smaller dogs. Pick them up or leave them home.

Last year someone posted their poor dogs feet that had horrible blistered paws after coming back from a walk..she wanted to warn pet lovers

Many pet owners take their dog to places where they really shouldn't be taking them.
The farmers' market in the square is one of those places.
They don't belong there!

It's like the owner is back in first grade with show and tell.
The real fact is that most people really don't care what kind of dog you have or what it looks like!

Leave your dog at home. Be considerate of the dog and others.

No worry they'll just place pooch in a shopping cart and go into Public's to cool his paws :cold:

Please leave your dogs at home. They do not ask to be taken to the squares where the ground is blistering hot, they are thirsty and hot and people trip over them. I wish dogs were banned from the squares. Yes, I am a dog owner & lover and I would not think to take her to the squares. She is comfortable in her air conditioned home, with food and water and her brother, the cat, by her side.

I hope they don't ban dogs on the squares. I just wish people would use more common sense about their pets' health and safety.

I don't understand why dogs are allowed in the Farmers Market, period. Where I come from in Michigan, they aren't. Even in France, one of the most dog-friendly countries in the world, they are not allowed in the outdoor food markets.

Shouldn't the health department have something to say about that? Even in restaurants, certain rules must be adhered to. Shouldn't the farmers markets have to apply for permits and follow health standards?

That was a rhetorical question. NO DOG BASHING, PLEASE!!!!

I think it's great that dogs are allowed on the Squares.

But dog owners have to use common sense! Please don't take your dogs out anywhere when it is hot! Don't take your dogs to the Squares on Vendor nights or when Rocky is playing or when huge crowds are expected. Please don't ruin it for the rest of us.

Most pet owners are responsible and respectful. I think we've taken our dogs to LSL twice in seven years, both times when it was cool, keeping them away from any crowded areas. But we cherish the privilege to take them to the Squares.

I'm quite sure most people take their dogs to public places to give them a little time out of the house and some socialization. I feel guilty leaving the little fellow at home so much, but it has never occurred to me that I am in any way "showing him off" when I take him out! We don't do dogs in the supermarkets here in the USA, but it's common practice in many countries.
Hopefully, we will all use common sense about the summer heat here in TV and certainly we can all use some tolerance of ideas a little different from our own.

I can't even get dogs banned from my house. My wife has two beagles that are a pain in the ________ (fill in the blank).

I don't see how dogs walking around the square during the "farmers market" should be considered a health issue. They're walking on the ground...they're not sneezing, coughing, picking their teeth and/or their noses, and then handling the produce like the humans are. (Have you ever people-watched at the farmers market?).

I agree with others about the heat concerns when it comes to taking pets anywhere...but I have a problem with people complaining about pets showing up where pets have always been allowed!

One of the reasons I moved to The Villages was because of its pet-friendly reputation. I'm very discriminate about where I take my dogs (for their sake). I look out for their well-being, as I'm sure most pet owners in The Villages do.

The other day I went shopping at Winn-Dixie. As I came out of the store and got to my cart, I noticed that the woman in the car parked next to me had reached her vehicle at the same time. She opened the car door and two dogs jumped up, panting and obviously glad to see her. "Well", she said, "that's what you get for insisting that you come along!".

:$::rolleyes:
Evolution, adaptation, I don't know. Dogs who wear clothes, sunglasses, and shoes, ride in strollers, enjoy happy hour ifrom the comfort of a purse, go shopping, and basically are with their humans 24/7 must surely talk!

I thought I read that dogs are not allowed during farmers market times. I saw a sign or heard it on our radio station. I would not have known if it was not for that.

I have always defended the rights of dogs on this forum. For their sake. I'm against dogs on hot pavement, pooping/peeing in people's yards, and running around loose, dyed pink, riding unrestrained in golf carts.

This is the first place we've ever lived where dogs were allowed in farmers' markets. Mine is tall enough to sniff a peach pie that you couldn't take home and wash. (But he doesn't go to farmers' markets.) If it's legal, fine, but curious that the health department allows it.

My guess is that woman was embarrassed she got "caught" leaving her dogs in a hot car and tried to blame it on the dogs in front of you. Where's bonanza when you need her?

We have a lady that walks her dog at least 10-15 times a day on our street. All hours of the day, all temps. Sometimes that poor dog looks like a dancing chicken walking on the pavement. I said something to her one day and she said she didn't want the dog doing it's business in her yard and that's why she walks him so much. Wow!

She should be embarrassed. It's inhumane and against the law.
There is no possible excuse for trapping innocent children or dogs in hot cars.

My friends in MI left their very hairy Keeshund in the car one day. It was 70 degrees out, so they thought he would be okay. Someone in the parking lot called the police. The cop really chewed my friends out. They were ticked! I was secretly glad. I hope they'll never do it again, but I'm sure they became defensive enough to convince themselves they did nothing wrong.

Like people say frequently on TOTV, sometimes you can't fix stupid.

There were two small dogs at the Brownwood market that a man had on leashes that were barking constantly and pulling on their leashes. He would stop at a tent to look at something and both dogs would bark loudly and run around pulling at their leashes and wrapping them around the people that were standing there trying to buy their produce. The man appeared oblivious to the commotion that his dogs were causing. Seriously! Another lady had a dog on a leash and she stopped and let it pee on the pots of plants and flowers that one of the venders was selling. Again, she appeared to think this was perfectly ok. These are the owners that give all dog owners a bad image. What makes these people think that they are entitled to let their dogs do what ever the heck they feel like without regard to anyone around them! :loco:

there would not have been any trouble
other than reducing that woman verbally,

Wish animal control could view the stupid humans. May a ticket or removal of their pet could put some common sence in their brain
