My wife and I love to go Kayaking and we sometimes go to Dunnellon as there you can rent $20 day and love to paddle up the rainbow river away from everything and also they have a bus that (if you want) will take you "upriver" so that you don't have to paddle "against" the current but we like it either way.
We have thought a couple times about "buying" a Kayak but don't have the car or area to keep it and like the fact that you can just "leave it" when your through for the day.
We love the water and love the scenery as well as going back in nature but haven't found a lot of people interested in paddling. We are quiet type people who love the outdoors and enjoy "quality" people.

check out the Discovery Kayak web site. Ryan Toler does the demos in the Villages, and leads small group trips. Great guy!

My husband used to kayak with The Villages (http://www.discoverykayaktours.com/Pages/villages.aspx). This is the group that starts people off on Lake Mira Mar (?) near the Hacienda Rec Center. He had a great time with them and enjoyed the many wilderness areas into which they kayaked, not the sort of areas one would want to kayak alone. You might like to try this group.

Hubby & I are long-term kayakers. Many years in New Jersey and the north eastern rivers. What are the precautions for the alligators in our Florida waters?

When I was in my 20's I lived in Pensacola for six years and my crew at work and myself took Black Water River State Forest canoe trips about ten times over the years. I just checked and they are still in operation and have only raised their price from the 70's price of $15 to today's price of $25.

What's unique is they meet you at the end point where you park your car. They transport you up river while pulling a trailer with six canoes. The average trip is about six hours down river, which allows time for stopping to eat and swim along the way. It was really beautiful and in all those trips, I never once saw any snakes or alligators.

I haven't driven from TV to Pensacola, but it's about 3-1/w hours down I-10 from Tallahassee to the State Park, that can give you a rough idea.

This looks like a fun place, but it is 5-1/2 hours from The Villages. It would be nice to kayak somewhere that you could swim, too!

I kayak with the kayak club, but rent boats, since my kayak is back in Ma. My wife does not kayak. I would like to kayak during the week sometime a group that goes where rental are available. I will be back in the villages around Oct 1. PM me if you are organizing any group kayaking trips. ie 3 to 12 people.

I've thought of joining the kayak villages club as well. I love nature and water! I would be very interested in going along on a kayak day trip. Not really my husbands thing so I'd be flying solo. Please count me in. I think it would nice to meet others living here and doing something we enjoy.
