Big thanks to Uptown girl and others who recommended Matt with Chattahoochee River Rock!

We had our Lanai and front entry done yesterday and it looks and feels fabulous!! He mixed a custom color for us, some grey with some brown and white. It really turned out nice. He is a great guy and knows his stuff.

Great price for a great product! I would highly recommend him along with the others! We are so glad we chose this for our Lanai!!

I would love to see a photo or two; I was considering this for a small lanai.

Is it used on driveways? Maintenance?

Do you need to seal it every year?

Please don't use it on your driveway. We had it for 9 years and because of the sun and rain exposure, it turned hazy, milky looking as the sealer broke down. Yes, we used Matt, it did look beautiful....until 5 months later when it again started to get white. As long as it's under roof, it's good although even the irrigation and rain water would make it white around the edges of the open lanai. It's now been jackhammered off and a different method used.

It is wonderful to walk on bear foot . Very little upkeep

It should not be used on the driveway. It would be too hard to keep up. I had it on my lanai for 23 years in SWFL, and loved it! I DID pressure wash and recoat every year, because some areas (by the pool and exposed to the daily sun) faded faster than others and I like when it was all shiny :). I covered it over when we were selling the house, because the deco-crete was the "modern" thing and they said my river rock aged the home.....fooey!! I loved the look, it felt nice on my tootsies, was pourous, so the water drained and I had to pressure wash at least every year anyway, so a quick few hours to (thinnly) reseal and a day to dry and I was happy!!

The river rock does need to be resealed, I believe every couple of years. Also the milky white appearance, that sometimes shows up, can be brightened by applying a coat of denatured alcohol. Matt will do this for you but we do it ourselves a couple of times a year. Takes about one gallon but we have an over 1,100 sq ft lanai.

I would not put it on a driveway, only because of the slope- one could possibly slip if walking up or down the driveway during a rain.

P.S. to Dotti-

Denatured alcohol,as mentioned above, in a spray bottle. Spritz a fine mist in areas that may take on a milky appearance due to sun & rain exposure. This really is not a big problem as it is just an occasional occurrence. Love everything about the flooring & ours has been down almost 7 yrs.

The lanai and this front entry are the same color river rock. Looks very different due to the lighting. We had him do a grey/brown combo as our home is grey. Prettier in person. And feels so good underfoot!!

After reading all the posts in this thread, there seems to be an error in what everyone is calling chattahoochie.

Chattahoochie are stones, approximately the size of a quarter or so, densely embedded in poured concrete.

The photos which are shown here by Dotti and SPK are not examples of river rock.
River rocks are larger smooth stones of various sizes.
If this is a surface installed [U]over[U] concrete, it is a treatment called Poly Pebble.
It may be called something else in this area, however, but it isn't chattahoochie.
It is a veneer and water drains through it.
If it is not resealed often enough, the pebbles will wear off,
particularly in a high foot traffic area.

Both photos look very nice. Good luck with your new surface and enjoy it!

Poly Stone or Poly Pebble references the clear acrylic resin used as the binder/sealer.
The tumbled stones are chips of granite- gathered from outcroppings along the Chattahoochee River. There are 5 different granites there- different colors that can be blended to many combinations.
Mixed into a slurry with the acrylic resin, it is poured and hand troweled over existing concrete (using forms around the perimeter before pouring)- indeed making it a veneer- what we have at our home is approximately 1-1/4" thick.

My experience with an indoor lanai floor (about 3/8"thick) is, it will start to dull after 3-4 years. The pebbles don't wear off. The top surface of the epoxie will wear and dull. Outdoor applications would require more frequent re-sealings.
Its a very easy to reseal it yourself.

I am thinking about filling in the courtyard on my Amarillo with the River Rock. The only problem is I have a European Palm in the middle of the courtyard. I wonder if they could leave the palm and just have a large opening around it with a feeder from the sprinkler system.

I am sure that this is called different things in different parts of the country.

But 25 yrs ago when were raising our family in Clearwater, Florida we had "River Rock" as our pool decking for our in ground pool. The pebbles were a bit larger. But basically the same finished product. We loved it!! Non- slip (important with a house full of kids), never any standing water, maintenance free and beautiful! We were in that home for 10 yrs and my husband and I do not recall ever having the River Rock resealed. And it was in full sun. I think it got duller, but never any loose rocks.

When we heard about Matt and the Chattahoochee River Rock, we know that was what we wanted for our Lanai! It is a great product! Really pretty! And actually much nicer in the smaller size of the rock than what we had in Clearwater yrs ago.
