Greetings everyone,

I'm trying to convince my neighbors who also happen to be dear friends that TV is a place they should consider for their retirement but the husband is a veteran and is concerned about veterans services. For that reason he's looking at options in Texas because he says there are some communities in Texas which have large populations of veterans and veterans services. My friends are very active and social folks and I'm trying to convince them that they should really take a look at TV but I cannot answer his questions about the Vet population and Vet services in the area.

I would be extremely grateful for any information which I can share with him so he might consider TV as a possible option.

Hi Punkpup, take a look at my post Military Talk. It lists quite a few of TOTV's vets and their backgrounds. There are Veteran's services located at 8033 E. C.R. 466, The Villages, Florida or Call area code 352-753-2686 M-F 8:30am to 5:00pm. I hope this helps, Johnny

Actually, it's the "vets" support that was one of the positives which made buying here an easier decision. There's plenty of vet's groups, associations, reunions, etc which abound within driving distance (car and gof cart). A good VA hospital services the area and TV has an expanding VA clinic satellited off the VA hospital (in Gainesville) that's golf-cart accessible.

Thanks Steve. On another issue and not a pleasant one, are you familiar with Veterans cemetery preregistration in TV. We are registered in NJ but will be closing on our home on March 31. I tried to call a few people and they seem to say there is no preregistration in place. Johnny

Sorry. Know nothing about pre-registration. There is a vet cemetery close to TV (as Bushnell)(where my father is buried), but that is due to fill up soon, if not already. Since it is close by, stopping over at Bushnell's admin office may be worthwhile for answers.

Hi Punkpup, This is the place for any veteran to be. I am a veteran also. We have one of the best VA reps right here, (by the Sumter Co. tax office and fire station). Have the VA clinic at Laurel Manor, supposed to build a hospital by Mulberry, the VA hospital in Gainesville, (60 Miles), The Southeast Regional Office in St. Petersburg, Fl., there is also a clinic in Leesburg. Numerous military and veteran groups here in TV. They have a Van shuttle that goes to Gainesville VA Hospital and returns every day, no charge, if you drive up there you'll get paid mileage, (approx $13.50).

The services that I have used in the past 5 years I have been here has been outstanding. I couldn't have asked for any better. Actually better that my regular doctor outside the VA. Tell them this is the only place to be. (No, I'm not a sales agent for TV, just someone who loves TV and think its the only place to be).

I thank you all so much!!! This is extremely helpful. I sent a link to this thread to my friend so he can read all your responses for himself.

I thank you, too. My hubby is a veteran and uses the VA for his medical. Until reading this thread, I never knew there was a rep in TV. I thought he would have to go to Orlando or Gainesville for a clinic and was pleasantly surprised to learn there were closer clinics in TV and Leesburg.

I had him sit down and read all the posts. What would men do without us women? :dontknow:

As far as the veteran population goes, there is an American Legion Post near TV that I believe is pretty active. When we visited my husband attended a meeting of the Airborne Club that met there. I went along and just hung out while he was in the meeting. They seem to have a lot going on.
