If you are searching for a new OBGYN, please read below what happened
to us... I'll let YOU be the judge:
1. My wife's first visit went well, and a strange mass was detected in her
abdomin... so a pelvic ultrasound was ordered / performed - which revealed
an unknown mass around the uterus (all this went well); but then:
2. The Dr & her staff scheduled my wife for an endometrial biopsy for 10 June
3. The morning of 10 June, as my wife is walking out the door, she gets a
call from the staff -saying "Oops! we are sorry, but we scheduled you
for the wrong procedure.... you really need a hysteroscopy". And Oh! we only
do those on Thursdays, and the next available opening is 26 June!
4. So, we wait, and meanwhile our family Dr orders a renal ultrasound -
fortunately showing that the kidneys are OK... but the mass has now grown
8X in just 2 weeks!! So, We rush back to Nwaubani's office, but they insist to just keep the appt on the 26 of June;
5. On 21 June, Nwaubani's office calls us and says "Oh, the Dr won't be
in on the 26th... so we have to push your appt back to 03 July. About 30
minutes later, they call again, saying the Dr now has decided to do this
hysteroscopy in the hospital (my guess is that this is the first time she
read the report about the mass getting rapidly bigger). Someone on the
staff supposedly schedules my wife for the procedure in the hospital for the
7th of July.
6. On about the 3rd of July we call the staff to get some basic info - such as
is this an overnight stay, or just in and out, etc. The lady we talk to says
that the earlier hospital appt for 07 July was false - must have been made
by the billing clerk or something - and in any case she MIGHT be able to
get my wife scheduled for 14 July (at the earliest). We gave up with this
doctor at this point!!!

No matter how good Dr Nwaubani is, she is also responsible for maintaining
an efficient and effective office and staff.... and as the above shows - OUR
experience was absolutely disastrous.

Our advice.... go see doctor Oscar Osorio - he was absolutely wonderful,
caring, and his staff was very effective. Between Dr Osorio, and his referral
for us to go to Shands center in Gainsville, my wife is now well on her
way to a full recovery. He got done in about 10 days what Nwaubani's
office couldn't do in over previous 2 months.

Wow....so sorry your wife and you had to go through such nonsense. Sounds like an extremely unorganized office. I'm glad she finally received the care that she needed and happier yet that she is on the road to recovery.

There are so many things wrong with your whole experience that it is bad from the beginning. This could be a staffing problem - new inexperienced person(s) either in the MD office and/or hospital. Overhead at many offices are so high and renumeration from insurance so low, that keeping competent staff is difficult. Some very good personnel can be over-burdened, doing the work of many, that they leave. So lots of turn-over. This can really reflect on the physician's reputation. The whole medical care situation is a mess.
There may come a time that the overhead costs are too great and then the Dr. will leave. This, unfortunately, is not the only disasters Dr's are experiencing, Loss of wards clerks and doctor order entry is very difficult and time consuming. If you check your bills from the hospital, you will find bills that have been charged by the Doctor. He/she charges for 45 minutes (as an example) to see you, when you know you saw them 10 minutes. They have to charge the rest of the time for imputing everything into the computer and it must be in the format the government wants now-a-days. Such as: does the patient smoke (yes, make comment), patient have advanced directives (No, make comment) do they wear seat belts (make comment) and on & on. Now, mind you, you are being seen for high blood pressure, but the government demands that certain parameters be met each time you are seen "you are still wearing seat belts, right?"
However if your weight is contributing to your high blood pressure, all that is necessary is that the MD tell you to loose weight....there are so many "boxes" to check, the doctors don't have time to get-into it with you and the ways that may help you lower your blood pressure.

Is a shame what the great profession has been turned into. God help us all.

I had problems with an Opthalmologist's office - the Dr was wonderful but I couldn't deal with the errors of the staff anymore with billing and co-pays. Now have another Dr and no problems anymore. Thankful that mine wasn't a serious matter - just annoying. Glad that your wife finally got the attention she needed.

I had a similar experience with her and was very unhappy. Went to Moffitt immediately and all was well.

I also go to a physician who I respect, with a terribly unorganized office and/or an archaic computer system. He never has my lab results input with ample time to do it. They do not seem to scan and post long histories, I had to bring Helene's paper history three times.

Gracie, I suspect that just as we are dumbing down entrance requirements for colleges and graduating kids that are nearly illiterate, the schools that teach medical assistance careers do not have high standards. It goes without saying that it only takes a relatively small percentage of "low knowledge" medical staffing graduates to screw up the back office of an entire medical complex. I would guess that we are going to see much more of the quest to just find "warm bodies" to fill job openings in medical clinics.

Sure glad I just read this. I was given the name of this practice just yesterday. Will definitely not consider them now! Thank you for the info. Glad your wife got help and is healing now.

I also had an unpleasant experience with the staff at Dr. Nwaubani's office. I wish they would read these posts and see what the public is dealing with in their office. I cancelled my appt. & am looking for another OB/GYN. Any suggestions?
