I know there is a pistol club, but is there a club for people who like to skeet and trap shoot? Or does one join a club outside of TV and if so what are the clubs names? Are there other types of shooting clubs?

resett...

Villages club listing on Va Trace website shows there is a trap and skeet club. I seem to recall a Sun article that said they were having to find a new off-campus location to do their shooting...somewhere between TV and Ocala.

http://virginiatrace.com/links/ClubsListing.pdf

Open up the pdf and use adobe find/search function...type in skeet and it'll bring you to that line...it's on page 54 of the 60 page doc.

Something for everybody...

Donna, I have a carry permit for Pa as well. I haven't gone for one here in Florida yet, but hope that having the Pa permit will make it easier to get the Florida one. I don't want to have to take the classes. I have a pistol and rifle range at my home in Pa and know how to shoot. The laws in Fla probably differ in terms of how far you can legally fire from, etc.
I really feel no need to carry here, but do like knowing I have the ability to defend myself in my home. Methinks a book on Fla gun laws is needed.

There is a shooting club in The Villages called The Villages Trap and Skeet Club. their web site is:

http://villagestrapandskeet.com

They shoot at a place called Robinson's Ranch just outside Dunnellon, FL (a tad over 40 miles away). Here is their web site:

If you are into rifle and pistol shooting and want to try something really different think about SASS (single action shooting society). Dress in period clothing (late 1800), shoot period weapons...pistols, shot guns and rifles. As the saying goes it is the best way to have fun with your clothes on!!! There are about 20 clubs in FL. At least 6 within an hour from TV.
If interested let me know and I'll supply you with the nar tional web site.
It is family oriented...guys...gals....kids...yes they all shoot...itsa hoot!!!

This may not be current but here is a link for Florida gun laws. http://crime.about.com/od/gunlawsbystate/p/gunlaws_fl.htm

I do not like handguns so I never owned one but did own several shotguns and 22s for plinking back when I lived near Reno, Nevada where there were a lot of places just to go shoot cans and the like.

Getting a concealed weapons permit in FL is relatively straight forward. Go to the sheriff's office to get a set of finger prints done and an application for the permit. Mail with the appropriate fees and if'n y'ain't on their suspicious character list it'll come in the mail 4-6 weeks later. Depending on your personal status you may have to take a one day weapons course specifically oriented to personal carrying of a weapon.
I always tell even the most qualified, if you have not ever taken a concealed weapons permit class yet....THEN TAKE IT!!!! You will learn more than you might think when it comes to shooting in public or at home.

I like IHMSA the best. I am looking for a range close to The Villages.

I just returned from The Villages and while there tried the Air Rifle range. It is a great range and people are fantastic.

Your Pa permit will work in FL.

Firearm Reciprocity Agreements
In 1995, the Pennsylvania General Assembly gave the Attorney General the authority to enter into reciprocity agreements with other states.
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania currently has formal written reciprocity agreements with fourteen states that recognize a valid license to carry firearms issued by Pennsylvania. Conversely, Pennsylvania recognizes valid firearm carry licenses/permits from those states. In addition to the 14 formal agreements, other forms of reciprocity are applicable. Snip……..

Methinks a book on Fla gun laws is needed.

Try http://www.floridafirearmslaw.com/p/Florida-Firearms-Law-Use-Ownership-Book.html

On the expensive side, but appears to be comprehensive.
