Hi,

Thought you might be interested in the results of the class action suit.

DickY posted it on the original site and I thought it was to important to be missed.

I found this link to The Orlando Sentinel on the settlement: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/lake/orl-lvillages0908mar09,0,316401.story

Thank you Dick Y.

I also recieved this from scources outside the Villages. As the case apparently was settled last week did I miss the article in The Daily Sun or are they a part of the gag order?

Thanks HB, great article. The daily sun reported most but not all of the details.

No comment one way or the other on the lawsuit settlement, but folks should be aware that TV gets generally negative publicity from the Orlando, Leesburg, and especially Ocala papers. I noticed this before moving here when trying to do research on the place --- pre TOTV days. And when I say negative, I don't mean vis a vis the Daily Sun.

Here is the link to the Lake County Clerk of Courts showing the case. It would be interesting to get a copy of the final Order and see exactly what it says.

Question now is what new fees are we going to see to help TV get a return on the settlement?

$40 million divided by 70,000 people comes to $600 a head, if my minds works right.

Don't forget to divide it by 13 years. It ain't much money for a corporation like TV.

right, 13 years...so $50 per year per person, they'll recoup somehow

I don't think it will be shared by all 70,000 residents. If I read the settlement right, it only affects the Villages north of 466.

It's not the number of residents affected, but the time span of the payout. My first reaction, like most, was that 40 million bucks was a lot of money. Still is, from my perspective. But when you look at the payout time period, 13 years, it doesn't look like that much. I don't know if inflation is figured into the payout, or if the $40,000,000 is to be paid out equally over the 13 years. Just taking it straight, with no consideration of inflation, balloon payments, whatever, it comes to a bit over 3 Mil per year. Not really that much money in relation to the maintenance budget of TV as it is now and certainly as it will be in 10-13 years from now. It's a nice contribution, but certainly not a windfall. Kinda like winning 3rd prize in the lottery. You won the lottery and the money is welcome, but it ain't gonna affect your lifestyle much.
