On Long Island we had 13.5 inches of rain in twelve hours. Neighborhood flooded. I am fortunate to live on the top of a hill. My neighbor two houses away wasn't so fortunate. His eight foot basement is full to capacity and another two feet into the main section upstairs section.

We had 6 inches of rain in Detroit. All major highways are closed and many main roads. Cars stranded and submerged underwater. MDOT say it going to take months to repair infrastructure on highways that had 14 feet of water sitting for 2 days. Today its finally starting to receed. Thousands of basements flooded with 4 feet of water or more.

It's very sad people losing their belongings and cars are destroyed. We are fortunate because we sold our house in June. Neighbors told us our basement had 4 feet of water. We got out in the nick of time. Insurance companies are not paying for damage done to homes. It's awful.

Tom & I were driving when the rain came, instant flooding. I begged him to turn around and go home, which he did. Had we of drove one more mile our car would have been submerged under water. Scary, but we're lucky to have made it home. We never saw anything like it.

My son lives in Mass. Park and works in Melville.
After over 2 hours of trying to get to work he had it and went home.
Finally got in several hours later.

Unreal !

Dear got me, my husband and I lived in Massapequa Park for 34 years. One block north of Linden street, by the southern state. Small world. Perhaps I know your son, or he went to school with my girls? Kathy

Tippy, so glad you and Tom are okay. That kinda flash flooding used to happen often in the desert, so quickly, you don't have time to pull yourself out of it. Be safe!!

I saw this on CNN yesterday, and thought, wow, that's a lot of rain.

Glad to hear Tommy and tippyclub are safe.

Just goes to show that no place is safe from a catastrophic event. :(

Heat in florida doesn't look so bad. My wife was talking with a friend in LI yesterday and she asked her ' how did you know to move out of here,LI. We missed some terrible weather in the last year and a half. Sandy by about a week , the horrible snow storm that following winter, the brutal heat wave that summer,( which was more humid and hot than here.) and finally that terrible rain storm. Luck of the draw. LI has had its share of nasty weather recently. Hope our LI friends can enjoy the rest of the summer and coming months, they deserve it.
