I'M retired from Law Enforcement (32 yrs) and looking to find some employment of some capacity in such when i move to the villages. Does any other Retired Law Enforcement officers know of any leads or openings or where to look down there. I don't want to start all over and attend a basic recruit academy again. I"m in shape and excellent health, can pass any physical test. Any information would really be appreciated. Does anyone belong to an FOP Lodge their? The FOP Lodges listed Lake, Marion, and Sumter, no one ever answers the phone. No luck there. You can PM me if preferred. Thanks to all for any leads or help.

Hi: I just did a google search with for Law enforcement officer and the zip code 32162. You might find a few leads there. I also did a search on my favorite job website called Job Search | one search. all jobs. Indeed.com (http://www.indeed.com) It searches lots of job boards from all over. You can do a search with your zip code which for the Villages is 32162. There is also 32159, 32163, and others. When you search try changing your words around and even leave out the zip code and just type in The Villages or the surrounding cities like Lady Lake, Fruitland Park, etc.

I do know of a club here that is for retired New York police officers and if you would like a contact number I can give you that if you e-mail me at jnieman@aol.com. Good luck.

Try the county sheriffs departments. Marion county has an extensive volunteer program. I think they have a cold case unit that uses volunteers.

So your plan is to fail at retirement and work.

Some don't like to just sit around the rec centers and golf, but keep up the skills that they have learned their whole adult life. I plan to work after I retire I love what I do, that's not a failed plan.

The challenge is that there are a lot of retired law enforcement folks down here with varied backgrounds. Four suggestions:

1) Look at whatever your specialty or alternate training. For example, the folks from IRS/CI are often trained as forensic accountants or computer systems analysts (to find "hidden" data). An alternative might be with a large accounting firm that wants a forensic person. You may find that those skills will take you further than straight law enforcement.Same thing for physical security at ports or airports.

2) Look at slower paced stuff at Disney or Universal. A lot of the Disney security folks are former LEOs. No weapons, but big on trying to ID potential problem people in crowds and, well, keep them from causing problems. (Ever notice that you rarely heard about robberies, etc at theme parks? Not just management of the press).

3) From your screen name, I assume that you have K-9 experience. If that included training, there are a number of organizations in FL who train service and law enforcement animals. Your background may be a real plus with them.

4) Check on the ciminal justice programs at area (including Orlando) colleges. You may be able to teach as an adjunct. Pay isn't always great, but it is a chance to pass your experience on to the next generation.

Good luck.
