Have you ever asked what time it would be in Arizona? Probably not, but for trivia here is the answer.
Arizona is in the Mountain time zone. So at the time I am writing this memo at 1:52 PM EDT, you would think that Arizona would be 11:52 AM MDT. But it is really 10:52 AM MST except in the Navaho Nation where it is 11:52 AM MDT. The Navaho Nation changed to MDT this year whereas the rest of Arizona does not observe MDT and stays on MST all year long making it seem like it is on PDT in the summer.
Now , doesn't that clear things up? Hmmm! Did I get that right??

Almost. Arizona stays on MST all year long, not observing MDT. So in the summer Arizona's MST is the same as PDT.
I change planes two to four times a month in PHX, 12 months a year. It can be a little confusing.
Since the Navajo Reservation lies in Utah and New Mexico as well as Arizona the Navajos probably wanted to keep all their land in one time zone all year round. Makes sense to me.

I got it. I must have asked a native Navaho Indian who was travelling West to East outside of the Navaho Nation, missed my flight.

Moving on to Afghanistan, they set their clocks 30 minutes off the rest of us for some reason. Must be something about these places starting with an A?

I lived for a short while in southwest Indiana. That little corner of the state and a little corner of the state in the northwest are on central time while the rest of the state is on eastern time. I would literally have to leave my house (in the central time zone) an hour early to get to a meeting just a few miles up the road in the eastern time zone.i I would leave my house at 8am and 2 minutes later it would be 9am. Probably the most conflicted state there is when it comes to time. They were always arguing about it in the state legislature.

That happens to anyone who lives near a time zone border whether they are in the same state or not. I spent some time in Houlton, ME which is right on the border of Nova Scotia. There is a lot of travel between the two countries for people who live in border towns like that. We had Canadians that worked in Houlton and some Houlton residents worked over the border. We would take the kids for dinner in Canada, but it was always an hour later when we got there.

It's still a bone of contention here in Indiana. The argument continues about being in the Eastern time zone or the Central time zone. The two corners of the state are still on Central and the rest on Eastern. At least, a few years ago we finally went on Daylight Savings Time. Before that, we joined Arizona and Hawaii as the states not on DST. Our problem is that we pretty much straddle the time zone. Fun, fun, fun!

I just got home from Arizona last week. A friend and I went to Las Vegas, then over to Sedona, AZ. We should have made a youtube video of us trying to figure out what time it was and how long flights were, based on departure time and arrival time. Reminded me of "who's on first?" Good thing the pilot tells you the local time as you land.
