Perhaps it depends what you are buying. If I am buying groceries, I pay more here in Florida than I do in Massachusetts. However, if I go to a restaurant I pay more in Ma.

This is really a generalization since a state as large as California has significant differences in the cost of living depending where you live. For example, the average cost of home in San Francisco is $1 million whereas in Modesto it is $200k. Also, I am sure you can find significant differences in Florida as well between parts of Lake County and Miami.

Big error concerning TN. There is no State Income tax in TN. They have it listed as being 6%. Now there is a 6% tax on investment income that is not in a qualified account or a TN State Charter Bank. Just goes to show you that these surveys often have lots of miss facts in them.

Confirmed what I already knew. CT and NY are good states to be from!!!

Taxes in NY were horrendous and CT was even worse. It blew my mind there was a property tax on cars in CT so I always had an older car. Taxes in Westchester County in NY were very expensive. My cousin was paying 12,000 a year for her house. A friend of my brothers, was paying $50,000, but he was a millionaire.

For the most part, a $100 doesn't go very far. I used to feel that $100 was standard for taking the car in, for repairs. Heck, even an oil change was $50 minimum.
