You might find it more convenient to use the p.o. in Wildwood:

316 Shopping Center Dr [I think this is off hgwy 301]
Wildwood, FL 34785
Phone: (352) 748-2550
Hours of Operation:
Mon-Fri 9:00am-4:30pm Sat 10:00am-12:00pm Sun closed

There is also some sort of pack and ship business for mailing/shipping in the Colony shopping center - and maybe one will be coming to the Pinellas center.

The Wildwood post office is in the shopping center with Sav-A-Lot groceries and a Radio Shack.

No. There is a post office on wildwood and there is one on 466A near the intersection with 25A. and of course the main post office in Lady Lake. The Villages is not a town, therefore no post office.

Not likely to get a new post office with the postal service running in the red.

I don't think you have to be a town to have a post office. We moved here from Lutz, Florida, 33549 also not a town (just an area called Lutz). I suspect all you need is a zip code, which leads me to believe The Villages could have a post office if the USPS wanted to spend the money that they don't have!!

post offices are placed for distribution purposes. there is not a place called 'the villages', but we are almost all in the distribution area served by the lady lake post office. we have post ofices in wildwood, fruitland park, summerfield, lady lake, and a substation behind the original town square by the el ranchito restaurant on 441. there most likely will never be a post office in the villages. the USPS is not in the business to make money, or serve as a retail outlet. they are there to distribute mail.

Not likely to get a new post office with the postal service running in the red.The commonly accepted story is that the Developer attempted to get a new post office built within The Villages several years ago, even offering to build the new facility and sell it to USPS for one dollar. Even with the Developer's strong ties and campaign contributions to the political administration in power at the time, still no approval occurred. Presumably, USPS was concerned over opening a new, larger facility in TV which would have wildly fluctuating staffing requirements during the year, due to the fluctuation of seasonal residents. That sort of fluctuation can more easily be accommodated by the network of smaller post offices in surrounding communities.

Now that USPS is in dire financial straits, there's probably no chance of a new post office anywhere within The Villages.

There is a UPS Store in the Pinellas Plaza on 466A near Winn Dixie. I have taken my letters there to be mailed and also bought stamps from them. I think they're open every day except Sunday.

This store is very customer friendly and they do everything they can to accommodate. We also use the Wildwood PO--very helpful, friendly staff there as well.

Looks like Post Office looking to put stations in stores like Staples etc, and Super Markets. Cuts out rent, and utilities, while still being convenient. They need to save money somehow, like eliminating Saturday delivery.

I'm not getting into the argument of why the post office is not viable but, lets face reality, my mail comes addressed to THE VILLAGES. We have over 100,000 residents and do not have a post office? Our home in Ohio has 17,000 residents and we have a post office (not that it is justified). Might the underlying reason be political?

It could be because The Villages is not a municipality, it is a Community Development District (CDD).

Why is another post office needed?

Why is another post office needed?

I don't know! Down by 466A, we have two close choices, virtually at either end. (Okay, so one's on 301). If anyone would benefit from another PO, seems like it would be up around 466.

For a PO in one of the town squares, you would have to park & walk further with packages than you do at any of the existing POs.
