Got a summons for jury duty in April from Sumter County.
It said coat and tie mandatory for men and pants suit or dress for women.
Has anyone on the forum been to jury duty here?
Just wondering about your experience.

I've been in a lot of courtrooms and trials and I dont think I've ever heard of such a dress requirement anywhere in the country. What does a prospective juror do if he doesn't own a coat and tie? There are many in Sumter County who I'm sure fit that bill. Will he be excused from jury duty if not "properly" dressed? If a prospective juror doesn't own the required clothing and can't afford to buy it, will he be held n contempt of court?

I was called for jury duty here, but did not serve on a trial. I don't think they are asking too much for people to come dressed appropriately. The jury selection process was handled very professionally and most of the people were excused the same day. Depends on the caseload of the judges, but most are settled without a jury. I've served before and this was not much different. If you are over 70 you do not have to serve if you don't want too...
