We have our young grandchildren visiting next week and were wondering if anyone is familiar with a playground/park (swings, slides and climbing gyms etc.) in the Villages or nearby that we may access for their enjoyment. Thanks.

Lake Sumter Landing has a playground across from Whiskey Creek Grill.

Yes and it is a nice playground over at Sumter Landing, Steve.

I'd like to see some heavy playground equipment, maybe at the regional rec centers, that was strong enough so a fatso like me could use the swings. I'll pass on the slides, teeter totter, and monkey bars, but even at our age, maybe especially at our age, sometimes it feels really great to swing your troubles away on a nice long swing set. Really kick those feet and get way up there so your feet almost touch the stars. 040

Maybe I'll add that to the Resident Survey next week.

Mr Muncle or is it Uncle Muncle??
Are you running a fever? In all seriousness (that will be the day) how about you and fumar and Eddie and myself meeting at Urban Flats in April and lets do a comedy skit. I'll be the straight man ;D

But I wanted to be the straight guy. I am SO gullible. Does sound like a good idea, though much of my future planning is dentally dependent. Half of a massive bridge (in my mouth, not Minneapolis) broke and it looks like we're going with implants to replace. Don't yet have a timetable. In the interim, I'm doing a Walter Brennan imitation so I am completely avoiding society, be it polite or otherwise. If it ain't drive-thru, I don't do it. I've even removed the mirrors from my house. (Golf is, of course, excepted.)

Lake Miona Park is very close to the Villages and has a small playground area. Google it.

Someone put a Tree Swing up in the doggy park last year and I have to admit I did enjoy the ride as my daughter and granddaughter laughed at me! (not sure if it is still there, though) Does anyone know?

It was there a few weeks ago in the 5 or so acre back field of Doggie Doo Run Run. My dog Sport fits through the south fence of the big field. He can get through the gaps in the fence so I have to keep him in the small dog area. >:(

I admit it's still fun to swing and I do it occasionally on the school playground when I have recess duty. Pumping the legs to get higher and higher is really a good workout. ( ::) I know comments will be comin' bout that ::)) Once high, my tummy tickles just like when a child. Such great fun!

On the other hand...this makes me sick! http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh96/renielarson/merry_go_round_md_wht.gif

Childish or not I love to swing...always have, always will. I would definitely sign a petition to put in a swing park for all us big kids.

Here's a link for information about Lake Miona Park which is quite close to TV. http://sumtercountyfl.gov/pw/parks/facilities/lake_miona_park.htm :read:

Thanks Tal, I look forward to visiting it when TV is finally our permanent home.

When that happens though I am serious about the "Swing Park". Wouldn't it be fun to have the world's only swing park for big kids? A place where everyone would be welcomed as part of the "swingers".

We could have a swing for everyone...rope&wood board swings, which bring back memories for some.

Chesea, Brightspot, Nonie, for you and me... chain link and leather, for those who want to go really high...these could be attached to something very high so that they had really long chains, (these would definitely require several pushes to get going) that way you could go high without going over the top, that would scare me these days.

Then of course for the romantic daydreamers, Ronda, we would have hammocks and woven net swings, hanging from every tree. There would be birds singing lovely songs and a gentle breeze to push you.

Muncle and Tal, how about a rope swing that swings out over a (clean, gatorless) pond. You could swing out and drop in.

In honor of our grandchildren, we would have a children's section. Oh and for those who like to watch, or just take a break porch swings with great views of the action.

I can see it now. What fun we would have. (sigh) I better make sure I do my yoga today, I think I'm going to need to be "bendy" to live in TV.

That might not work with the clean, gatorless pond around these parts. Lake Miona Park borders a lake which has its share of these creatures. They have a boat ramp on one side of Lake Miona Park's waterfront where a gator could just walk up and a beach on the other sideof the waterfront. The side bordering the lake of Lake Miona cannot be more than 120 feet. This kind of math though kind of puts the odds on the sides of the gators. :joke:

Well then, I guess we will just have to incorporate a bit of a Peter Pan / Captain Hook and his alligator theme.

That's an idea. Swimming with the alligators. Already swam with the sharks at the U of MN Law School. :joke:

Ahhh one of my Alma Maters...yes, yes, I do believe there are sharks on campus, little bit frozen just now, but definitely there. If you swam with them you will have no problem at the swing park. There are probably many other legal types who would love to swing and swim with you.

Go across the golf cart bridge and turn right. Look to your left and see a swing hanging from a tree. Not sure how it got there --just showed up one day. It has been there so long that I am not sure how much weight it will hold now.

Did I understand that TV has planned activities for when grandchildren visit. Can anyone elaborate on this?

I'm sure someone will come along with more information but I did notice that TV had Easter egg hunts for kids under 10 -- $5.00. I gather that during the summer and possibly spring breaks there are summer camps (of sorts) and the like. I do wish they had a rec center for visiting teens so they had things to do.
