We are having a rash of golf cart thefts lately.I have found a fairly inexpensive way to at least slow the crooks down.I threaded a bike lock cable around the seat bracket(works on an older Club Car,you may need to find another spot on your cart)and then ran it through the steering wheel.A"car" type ignition key or a cut off switch are fine but they can still roll the cart onto a trailer. With the steering wheel locked if will frustrate them and they will probably move on.Hope this idea will help protect your property.

Good thought for security of your cart. I would like to add this to it. Turn the wheels as sharp as they will turn before you lock it up. Keep the cable as tight as possible. This will stop someone from pushing the cart off, will only go in circles. Another step, is to put a welded eye bolt in the floor out of the way of your pedals, thread your cable thru the eye bolt around your brake pedal so the brake can't be released.

I am installing an alarm system on my cart that will disable the ignition if not turned off. Also, has a motion/shock sensor, if someone sits in the seat, alarm will go off and the ignition is disabled. Also, works if the seat is raised.

I also read the article in the Daily Sun from Monday that two additional carts were stolen over the weekend bringing the total golf cart theft total to 8 this year. Maybe it's time for the sheriff dept to setup decoy carts with tracking devices like they do with decoy cars. Without license plates and VIN's it has to be very difficult to track stolen carts. Maybe in the overall scheme of things this is not yet a high priority in law enforcement.

What do they do ship them to some Golf Cart Chop Shop in LA? (Sorry Kathie). It must be some kind of initiation or hazing for kids. I would like to know the circumstances of how and when the carts were taken. I don't think any car thief worth his or her salt would reduce themselves to jacking golfcarts, do you?

I can imagine that there is a secondary market for these. Especially since they are relatively unidentifiable (no registrations etc.). Probably some used cart dealers who look the other way when someone sells them. Not sure if the cart was made to look like a Mercedes that it would have much value unless it was striped down to the basic cart.

True Russ, if they were premium looking carts, maybe worth the trouble.

We took a visual survey while on Canal street a week ago. Lots of golf carts are parked there with the keys still in them! Isn't that begging for a problem?

Most of them use common keys anyway so they are very easy to come by. Anybody can go to a club car dealership and buy a key.

So, would the club work on a golf cart?

The title of the article was "String of golf cart thefts continues," and it appeared in the Local section of TV Sun Tues, 3/18. According to the article the first theft occurred over the weekend (Saturday) bet 8-8:30 PM from the Publix parking lot in Mulberry Grove Plaza. The second theft occurred Sunday bet 7-8:00 PM from the Rialto parking lot. It would be very conspicuous to pick up the carts on a flatbed truck so I suspect they must have been driven away but who knows.

If anybody gives me a description of the stolen carts, I'll keep an eye open here in L.A. Is there a reward posted?? More incentive to drive around Compton looking for them.

Don't worry Johnny, I'll get you for that!!
