....move to The Villages.
Yep, 7 years ago we came to The Villages to make fun of the place (long story) and got the itch at that time to move there.
My husband has found the job (he is too young to retire) in sales in central Florida. We sold our northern home in 4 days (I will miss my 3,000 sq foot villa on a golf course) and are coming down this coming Sunday to buy.
Prices are rising and it is soo hard for me to get my head around these prices (remember I have been coming down 7 years and have seen the prices much lower in the past ....but a house is worth what people will pay for it).
I know there is the perfect house for us and am looking forward to being a frog.
I write this to all you Wannabe's to encourage your hearts (and maybe rub it in after last winter :icon_wink:)
soooo wish me luck house hunting.

Congrats on selling your home in 4 days.
Prices have risen 27% since I have been here last year.
I think the prices will continue to go up as Gary M. is not finished with building and it's the law of supple and demand.
Makes me wonder what the prices will look like after build-out is completed, (only Gary M. knows the final build-out date), and people still want to move here.
I know I don't miss the harsh winters in the northeast. 3 and half feet in one snowfall, is enough for me!!! :D

We moved from a 5000 sq ft house on a golf course to a 1500 sq ft villa. Don't miss the big house and yard AT ALL. You will love it.

I enjoy reading about people's adventures with finding out about and moving toTV. However, remember that there is no known antidote to drinking the TV Kool-aid. You just have to accept and enjoy the symptoms.

By now your house hunting adventure has probably started -- you lucky person! This wannabee is living vicariously through you! Good luck to you, and remember my offer to deliver a cooler full of pristine Chicago snow to your front door of your new home in The Villages in January still stands.

Excited to say that we bought a house!!!!
It is a Lilac. We looked at used and new.
There was only 1 Lilac available and my husband knew right away that he wanted that one. He is still working and will have an office in the home and this floorplan and the Iris both have big bedrooms so it seemed right to us.
It is has very little upgrades and a kissing lanai but at least we got one!!!

I forgot to say that we only had 5 hours of sleep the day we were looking....it should have been more fun but we were too exhausted!!!
Today we sat through all of the financial stuff for hours....I have a concusion and it is hard to sit and listen to someone talk for long about this stuff.
So glad it is over.
Also got to go back to the house and spend time and plan where things will go. We also got samples of our countertop, counters and carpet....so so helpful

This is a coincidence that you relay "it could happen before you know it". I work for the government and just yesterday decided to take another look at a retirement estimate that was done for me earlier in the year by my retirement rep. I noticed my service calculation date was off by a year as I know I began employment a year later. I gave the rep a call and she said that the 1.5 years I worked for the government in the late 80s was counted, so I will make my 20 year goal 1.5 years earlier than I thought. So now I am at 5.5 years to retirement instead of 7 :)
Any hoo, so happy for you that you found the house of your dreams. Probably because of my colonial roots I am really drawn to the older Cypress model, but then again we do want to downsize so not sure if that will be too much house for us in 5 years. There was an absolutely gorgeous Cypress that sold about 6 months ago that had my name all over it. Maybe by the time we are ready to buy that same house will be on the market again.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, and don't forget to post some pictures!!!

Nightingale, hooray for you.....glad to hear that you could be here sooner.
I would not call this the house of my dreams but it is the house of my budget ;-). Not complaining, very thankful at this point.
