As my husband and I always say to each other, growing up in the 60s exposed us to so much music in the Top 40 Countdown - foreign (Italian, Japanese and French); instrumentals of all sorts, crooners like Frank Sinatra and Perry Como, soul music (Motown, Chess Records, etc.); British Beat, Surfin' Sounds, singing groups - not bands (4 Seasons, etc.), Girl Groups...all of which could be heard on any Top 40 Station throughout the country. Now, it's all so different.

Quite a year.

Pictures of Matchstick Men was one of my favorites and a similar psychedelic song was Itchycoo Park by Small Faces. Hurdy Gurdy Man was also a cool psych-song, if you saw the movie Zodiac, everytime he killed someone they played that song.

The years 1967 thru '69 kind of run together for me, I graduated from high school in '68. I loved that whole psychedelic sound. I also loved all the one hit wonders that came out during that time. Cactus Jack & the Cadillacs perform a lot of those one-hit songs when they play the squares.

While in high school, about 1991, our son did a video term paper on the 60s. When finished he declared he should have grown up in the 60s because of the music and hot cars.
