If call forwarding is available on your IL phone, you could forward it to your Villages phone (or cell phone). When we leave The Villages for any length of time, I always forward all calls to my cell phone.

Not sure that's possible.

However, do you simply want to keep your IL number to use no matter if you're in IL or FL? (not work both at same time) If so, look into the Ooma Telo. $130 on Amazon. (About $45 more for the "Telo Air" model, which lets you connect via WiFi.) It's a VoIP solution so you will need the internet where you are actively using it.

They could port your existing IL number into the Ooma. The Ooma website has a page where you check if your existing number can be ported. Callers would not know WHERE they're calling. Take the unit with you when you travel back and forth.

I've had it for about 3 years. It's everything they say it is. Free calls except for about three or four dollars per month in taxes/fees.

I have an OOMA box with my Virginia number and my Florida number using the premium service that supports 2 lines. You can update your location anytime online so your 911 calls will show the address where you are located. Line 1 is a 703 area code and the line 2 is a 352 area code number. So I know which number is being called. Only exception is that I have both forwarded to my mobile and I can't tell which one it really is.

Works great and very low cost.

Not sure it's possible to use the same phone number in two places at the same time. We use Verizon "Home Connect." It's $20 a month for unlimited talk. Your phone number follows you wherever you go. We used it when traveling in a motor home, and now we use it here in Florida, still with a New Hampshire number.

Dispense with land line and just use a cell phone. You can get a cell using the number you have back in Illinois.

I have office phones in Wellesley, MA and New York City that I have forwarded to my cell phone. My clients call those numbers and have no idea I am in Florida. Messages go to my cell phone, too.

I have home phone connect that operates just like a wireless but is plugged into a wall jack just like a conventional phone. I have this service from Verizon and the cost is $20.00 a month. I have the same phone number as I had in New Jersey (732-000-000). I was able to have my phone in both locations, New Jersey and The Villages with the same phone number. I found this to be great since I wanted all of my husband's doctors to be able to reach us when we were at either location. Hope this works for you.

I agree, porting your home phone number to a cell is the most economical way. We did that a few years ago, we had a home phone (land line) that mostly elderly relatives and solicitors called, did not want to give up the number and was tired of paying $40 a month for a phone that was seldom used. It only costs $10 a month and we can take it with us anywhere we travel (also get free forwarding service if we wish). Saving $360 a year is a nice perk too.
