We are going to be in TV in a couple of weeks for a visit. My daughter has a project for school...doing research on the State of Minnesota. We thought it would be great if we could actually interview some real people from Minnesota. If you are willing to help please reply and I will contact you.
Just need to spend about 15 minutes answering some fun questions about life in Minnesota.
We're from MN............but unfortunately we're sitting here in Brooklyn Park! Bring her back to TV next year at this time, and we'll be happy to answer her questions - from the comfort of our lanai. Ha!

We are from Minnesota, and we will be in TV from the 4th thru the 10th of April. PM me and we can work out the details if you want to meet up. Now, we still live in MN but will be moving to TV full-time as soon as our home sells. So if that qualifies us I think we could find 15 minutes to spare.
PM10 we are in New Brighton. We are practically neighbors.
Hey Susan and Tom, we ARE almost neighbors! How lucky you are - all ready to make your move to TV! Good luck on selling your home really quickly! We have a year to go - which will be so hard. But spending time on TOTV helps soooooo much! What a great bunch of people!

There you are visiting TV from Minnesota and here I am on a two week consulting gig in Minneapolis and I live in TV. Weather report is predicting 4 to 6 inches of snow on Thursday!! Can't wait to get back to "Paradise"
Just Susan

Sorry to miss you, but don't worry MMC24. The weather is too warm for the snow to be much of anything in the next 10 days. Probably melt before or immediately after it hits the ground. It will be warm the whole time you are here...mid 40's...a veritable heatwave. http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/laugh2.gif (http://www.millan.net)http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/laugh2.gif (http://www.millan.net)http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/laugh2.gif (http://www.millan.net)http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/springsmile.gif (http://www.millan.net)
Welcome to MN, MMC!!! I guess it's all relative..........today seemed beautiful to us - course, if you're used to the Really Beautiful weather of TV, it's hard to appreciate 40 degrees! Enjoy your stay! Susan, don't you wish we could hitch a ride, back to TV, in MMC's suitcase?? just a thought

I have a better idea, we leave next week for TV. You could hitch a ride with us and then we will just miss our flight back to MN. We could stay in MMC24's house, he will never know. ;) ;D
Sounds like a plan! We'll stay at MMC's, and (judging from the recipe postings I just read) you can cook up some great food. BTW - have a wonderful time!

I love to cook, so don't mind doing that at all. I must say though I am not very good at clean-up. ;)

You are all welcome in TV. The pending snow storm might not amount to much but on my flight in, I noticed some ice fishing huts still on the lakes so when would you expect the ice to be cleared off sometime in June? Had to scrape ice off my windshield yesterday morning!!!! Never had to remove sunshine off my windshield in TV!! But I'll have to admit this is beautiful country not Paradise but nice. Found a nice steak house last evening called Redstone Cafe in Minatonka. Excellent steaks.

Larry is the name and from Minnesota. Glad to help with the project if I can. Dad has a little book out depicting many of the old farm implements which I'd be happy to share. In TV now and not leaving until May 19th. :) 751-7659

I went to law school (1986-1989) at the University of Minnesota while working my way through law school at the Minneapolis Public Library downtown library my 2nd year and then at the University of MN Law Library part of my 2nd year and also during my 3rd year. Also worked as a Student Co-Director of the Legal Assistance to Minnesota Prisoners (LAMP) Stillwater office along with now Judge Judy Tilsen as the other Co-Director.
Then stayed on after graduation from law school at the U of MN at the U of MN Law Library to work on cataloging all the computer files on WESTLAW as well as cataloging books in a dozen languages or so and doing some reference. I was also taking classes in Dutch, German, Russian, Italian, Chinese, and Japanese at the U of MN after law school graduation.
Did not have all that much time to see much of MN during law school with working and law school but did get to see a bit more after my 1989 graduation.
Have not been back to MN since 1991 though after getting through the perfect storm's affect on the Twin Cities in the late Fall of 1991. That was some snowstorm in 1991. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween_Blizzard
Also started my massive international project to help survivors of various kinds of crimes in February 1991 while still working at the University of MN Law Library but with taking a lot of misteps during that year as to how to proceed with this. There was a lot of trial and error involved.
Tal - that's certainly a storm none of us, who had the pleasure of experiencing it, will forget. I worked in the operating room at the time, and was one of the crazy nurses who actually got to the hospital.............didn't get back home for a day and a half - no one could get there to relieve us. Sounds like you had an interesting time in MN. I just drove by the William Mitchell School of Law, on my way home today. So, are you able to speak all those languages today?

Just a little bit in some of them. I was taking them for reading purposes primarily. Did win the Outstanding Reader of French Award while at the University of Nevada, Reno around 1978; so, my French would probably be the best and had taken a year of Spanish while at the College of San Mateo in San Mateo, CA the year before law school.

This web-site might be of interest for your daughter. http://www.finehomesofminneapolis.com/Minnesota_Fun_Facts.shtml Also may want to look for a book called something like "How to Talk Minnesotan". http://www.amazon.com/How-Talk-Minnesotan-Visitors-Guide/dp/0140092846
If you have seen the really funny movie in parts Fargo, you will be surprised to find very few Minnesotans actually talk like the people in that movie but some do.

Maria, suggest you send people private messages with your phone number. While this is a great group, you never know who is lurking.
BTW -- talked to my neighbor on Friday. Unfortunately, she's spreading her wings and is headed back home today. Sorry she couldn't be of help.

Larry,
Thank you so much spending your time with Catherine this morning. I just watched the video. She seemed VERY nervous, but I also think she was trying to act very professional....I told her professionals can still smile! Anyway...the interview was great and what a coincidence that you also lived in Fairport and worked at Xerox!!! It is a VERY small world isn't it.....Thanks once again to you and Marge for you hospitality....I have started reading the book and will share the information with Catherine!
God Bless!

You are so welcome. It was a joy to meet you both and we too thought it quite a coincidence that you'd be from Fairport and Catherine attending the same school all our grandsons attended (a few years earlier I might add). Chances are Catherine's teacher will recall the name Jacobs since she had four of them through the years. That is, if she's the same teacher.
Anyway, I had just mentioned to my husband last night that you folks were from Rochester, but some surprise to find it was Fairport. One of our sons still lives in Fairport, but we now share our time between The Villages and Conesus Lake in Livonia. You and Catherine are welcome to visit us there also. We return in May. We live right on the lake and Catherine would probably love to have a boat ride. Regards Marge

I am amazed at the number of people in TV from the Rochester, NY area. We lived in Rochester, I worked at Xerox, we now live in Geneseo (close to Conesus Lake in Livonia) and just closed on a house in the Village of Hadley...small world..and in a thread on looking for people from Minnesota.

margejacobs, I'm glad I caught up with you guy's and kudos for helping the youngster out with her project. In fact for a guy from New Jersey, this was a very interesting thread. Thanks to all of you for pitching in to help. TV; America's Friendliest Home Town! JohnnyM

I'm so glad you caught up too. It was a most enjoyable visit for the Minnesotan interview and I could tell from their e-mail address that they were from Rochester, NY I mentioned that fact and told them that we too were from Rochester. Catherine asked if we were from the city or a suburb. I told her we were from Fairport and she nearly leaped out of her chair. They too, are from Fairport and as it turns out, she goes to the same school that four of our grandsons had attended. (a few years earlier however) Catherine may ask the teacher if she recalls the Jacobs name.
Now that we are snowbirds to Florida, we live in Livonia, NY (Conesus Lake) for the summer months.

Catherine did indeed leap out of her chair...she has called everyone she knows to tell them this story!! Just to add a little bit more to the irony of this small world....we were outside one night last week looking at the Stars....we were greeted by Leo and Arlene....they live right across the street from the house we stay in...Leo and Arlene are from Minnesota!!! We are heading over there this afternoon for one last final interview!! This trip not only taught Catherine about all sorts of people and places in Minnesota...but also the kindness of strangers and once again how wonderful the people are in TV!!!
As I may have stated before...we have many friends here in TV...and while Catherine likes to think of herself as a young adult....she is only 11....so we have decided to move to (just OUTSIDE TV....) !!! Even if we can't live right in the TV....we can still live, shop and play with all the most wonderful people in the world!
Thanks again everyone....we will back in August!! :#1:

Hi Marge,
I was at Xerox for 70-76 in finance in the Square downtown; now live in Geneseo, NY and will be in The Villages next year...

Larry knew very few folks from downtown. He worked at Webster, Henrietta, East Rochester, and Fairport. He was a TPM in Engr.
Have you purchased your house in TV yet or you're coming next year to do that?
We wish you the best. We are in Winifred and enjoy it here. It's quite convenient.

Although an engineer myself, I ended up in finance and the engineering folks generally had a dim view of the "bean counters" especially around budget time.
We have closed on a new home in Hadley. I am a little concerned about the distance from Lake Sumter Landing and Spanish Springs, but everything in The Villages is pretty close. If I recall, Winifred is minutes from Lake Sumter Landing and extremely convenient.

Yes John, Winifred is about 2 miles from Lake Sumter and not so far from Spanish Springs either if one chooses to go there. We usually go to Sumter though.
