Car Accident

Another car accident here in TV. Was coming home today and saw a fire engine and an ambulance in front of Virginia Trace and someone was on the ground. Don't know really what happened as I didn't stop and be in the way, but it happened in a roundabout.

I wish they would just do away with these roundabouts. People just don't know how to drive them. I don't think the arrows are helping.

FlaGal...we were heading out just after 4pm for golf and saw traffic being stopped near Lake Miona Regional Rec Center and a Emergency helicopter setting down to land in that vicinity....must be the same incident. Scary stuff.....we'll see what's in the paper tomorrow.

The paper said a woman riding a bicycle was hit by a car.

If there is a off vehicle trail along beside the road you should not be riding a bike on the road. Some people that ride bikes do not use their brain. I have seen some people ridiong 3 feet from the curb. The law says no more than 2 feet.

A guy on a moped like vehicle pulled out on front of me while I was in the Winifred traffic circle yesterday. I had to pull quite a bit over to avoid hitting him. Thankfully, there was not a car in the inside lane or I would have had an accident too.

Tal, that is so frightening. Can you imagine how you would feel if you hit someone and maimed or killed them?
We have a lot of traffic and some people on the road should be required to turn in their
license. I hope I have sense enough to recognize it's my time to turn it in when the day comes.

A woman was riding her bike and was hit by a car. She has a broken elbow and bleeding on the brain. She is being kept at the hospital to determine next course of action.

She is a neighbor of ours.

Eventually something will need to be done to FORCE TV drivers to slow down and learn to YIELD. Before to long all our insurance premiums will begin to rise as the significant incident level here in TV becomes more costly to the insurers.

Well so far it looks like a "tie" as far as who is at fault based upon the input on this site. Looks like one person blames bike riders for riding too far out into the street and another blames the car driver for excessive speed and failure to yield.

It's an accident! Certainly "fault" can be assesed after all the facts are known. However, they sure aren't known from what I have read. Regardless of fault the driver of the car probably feels terrible.

Let's leave it as an unfortunate situation and quit trying to place blame based upon knowing nothing about what happened.

DRD - I haven't done it yet (my knees don't bend so well) but I can tell you I'd much prefer taking a bike on the road near the Lake Miona center than risk going thru the tunnel on a bike. Those blind corners and the prospect of an unsuspecting golf cart coming round one is enough to scare the :edit: out of me.

It depends upon what kind of rider you are and what type of bike you use. Someone like me should use the trails whenever possible, even though my training wheels occasionally run wide. The experienced folks who travel 25+ mph on high performance machines and travel long distances have every right to and should use the streets. Everybody just play fair.

I used to ride bikes a lot. It was actually safer to share the road with cars than it was the trails with walkers, dogs, other bikes, etc. Today, I would use the trails if I had to ride near a main thoroughfare -- I'm not as good nor as fast as I used to be. For just tooling around where there is little traffic, I would probably be on the street.

Drivers need to remember that the rule is 3 feet from bikes. If you can't pass at a safe distance, then stay behind until you can. Most bike riders are considerate and will move over for you as soon as they can safely do so. Most drivers do try to give bikes sufficent room but a little bit of patience would help.

Have ridden across Canada many moons ago when drivers were our best allies, especially running interference for us against bears in the road. Just be patient drivers if overtaking a slower means of transportation. Give them the benefit of doubt. What's your hurry??? :) :)

Not sure about mult-modal trails but up here in MA bike riders are required to share the road with cars and they are supposed to ride with the traffic and obey all rules of the road as if they were driving a car. I'm not saying that is happens all the time though. I mostly ride on special bike paths that we have in relative abundance. I know that Central FLA is developing a 100+ mile bike path that will come near TV but i haven't read much on its progress.

Sad story at the Doggie Doo Run Run today. One of the two dogs of a DDRR regular had his pooch struck by a car on El Camino Real. Guess the dog got loose. Feel bad for everyone concerned-- the dog owner, the 2nd dog, and the car or truck driver who hit the animal.
