I am looking for an eye doctor in the villages or within 10 miles that can do the cataract surgery requiring a toric lens for a astigmatism possibly both eyes ..
I have been quoted anywhere from 2500-2000 per eye
This is ridiculous .. in Ohio its 1200 and in most places close to that price!
Does anyone have an eye dr that has done this surgery at a lower cost for the toric lens/ since I have a astigmatism .. I need it for improvement!
if you have any suggestions for an eye doctor not charging 2000.00 for a toric lens
Please email me at classysrs@aol.com or call Shari 2164097793
Thanks

If your sight is worth less than $2000.00, GOD bless you.

I'm thinking that the difference is due to the preference for Laser assisted surgery with ORA (Optiwave Refractive Analysis) which has shown much better results with Toric IOL placement.
I am not a big fan of "lowest bidder" for your vision.
If Torics are your best option, then go with the best surgery.

Try the best providers you can find. My wife and I both had this surgery with amazing results at 73 years old.
We used Lake Eye- Scott Wehrly, but others on this forum have used other local quality providers. Yes it cost more than $ 2000 , but these are the only eyes we will ever have.

Or you can go back to Ohio to have the surgery. If there is a dr there that you trust, isn't it worth the trip? Just an option...

I had my cataracts done by Dr. Holman at Lake Eye. I too had astigmatism in both eyes. On the same day as the cataract surgery Dr. Holman did a procedure that took care of the astigmatism so no need for special lens. The cost was $2500 per eye. My insurance company paid $1500 but I paid $1000 for a special lens so I wouldn't need glasses for reading. Now I no longer need any glasses at all. It was the best decision I ever made. Dr. Holman is outstanding!!!!! Good luck in your decision.

I just wanted to add, since I've had the basic cataract surgery done so can't advise on your question. That said though...keep in mind that the process of the surgeries take up approx. 8 weeks of your life from the 1st eye to the 2nd eye (most docs space them 2 weeks apart). BUT the drops for healing afterwards and the re-checks (depending on the patient) will take you out approx 8 weeks. I had mine done through Ocala Eye and couldn't be happier with the results. I do have to wear "readers" which has been a bit of an adjustment but I'll take it over being able to see once again.
I understand what you're saying about costs. I think they're all pretty standard here at the various clinics in The Villages. I can't speak to "up north" prices. I'm just telling you that "IF" you'd opt for "up north"...you may have to stay up there for the healing/re-check process and is that worth it to you in the long run??!!
