We have recently purchased a home in TV (Lake Deaton) and are excited to begin this new chapter in our lives. Move-in date is November 1 (6-month snowbirds from South Dakota), the next 6 weeks will fly by! Today I've been trying to get cable TV info from Comcast (can't get through their automated system) and Bright House (busy signal for last 1/2 hour). Does anyone know if either of them have a "vacation plan?" Our provider here allows us to put services on hold for 2-6 months, with only a $35 restart fee. Any suggestions on getting through to customer service for either provider? :024:

Call Lysander from Brighthouse. Do a search here for him. He will handle everything plus first month on him.

We put our Comcast account "to sleep" for six months every year when we go back to Canada.
Bright House isn't available in our area.

Getting through to Comcast? :loco: is all I can say about that!
The information for vacation holds is probably available on the Comcast website, if you want to look there.

BTW...stay away from Comcast. The customer service is horrific. Brighthouse will keep you on hold for 30 minutes, but a competent person will eventually pick up, from my past experiences...

We have been in Lake Deaton for three months and use Brighthouse. We have absolutely no complaints about their service. We have our internet, cable, and home phone with them. PM me if you have any questions.

Centurylink has fiber to the home in your area, there is no minimum for vacation time and they charge $9.99 per month. You can vacation for up to 6 months. funny no one mentioned CenturyLink.

PM me for more info.

Brighthouse charges nothing per month, only a one time setup fee of $34. Two month minimum, nine months max. A much better deal, perhaps that is why no one mentions CenturyLink.

:agree: I sure wish Bright House serviced all areas of The Villages.

We use Verizon mobile hotspot for our internet access and were hoping to continue that in FL and just get cable TV. Any experience with Verizon signal strength? Seemed OK when we were there a couple weeks ago, but last year in St Pete, was often only 3G.

You would pay nothing per month with centurylink if you didn't get a phone line...

And its FIBER TO THE HOME not coax.

Wireless boxes, an actual whole home dvr and up to 1GBps internet speeds.

When fiber and cable compete, fiber always wins. I have brighthouse now because it's all thats available in my area and i hate the TV portion and the fact that every time my internet goes down i lose my landline. i would pay anything to have prism back like when i was in tavares.

And NO i don't work for centurylink.

they will have to trench a line to your house, for which the fiber is already ran for centurylink, various channels will randomly not be available, the internet is spotty, and the service guy that came to my house ran a cable from my roomates room to my room directly accross the floor, nothing secured at all. My cousin tripped over it, fell into the bathroom door head first, and caused over $700 worth of damage to our condo. Then they sent out 2 higher ups (because they didn't want to be sued) my cousin had a concussion from hitting his head on the door and the paramedics had to be called, he also has a seizure disorder so not good to experience a head injury.

This is MY personal experience with brighthouse. After 3 months they finally have the cable ran properly, refuse to offer a discount or any sort of compensation for our losses (we are waiting for a damaged claims review) and expect me to still pay the bill.

I'm probably going to sue, actually.

Sounds like a Walter Mitty experience to me. I'll stick with Brighthouse. BTW, I see no evidence of a trench even though he dug one. The tech did a great job and sweated his *ss off. I tipped him well and said adieu. I will not sue them for him sweating all over my kitchen countertop.

Give Lysander from a Brighthouse a call. They are a great company to work with. Vacation holds no charge. There are limits though I think as to how long or how often. Not sure which. I cannot wait for the day I cancel Comcast up here in a Chicago and move down there full-time and then have Brighthouse. We too are in Lake Deaton.

I'm currently on hold with them as we speak, my cousin has been having seizures every day since he tripped over that wire. they offered me a bill credit.

A BILL CREDIT for the safety and ability of my family member to work?

If i had any other option i would switch.

Sincerely, I hope your cousin gets well and is able to return to work. If what you say is true in that he tripped over a cable that was haphazardly run by an installer, and he can not work as a result of his fall I would have him not walk but run to the best personal injury lawyer available. That being said, your experience in no way reflects what Brighthouse offers it's customers in the way of cable, internet and phone. They require no contract, their rates are competitive and I feel they offer the best vacation package for seasonal residents. Again, I hope your cousin fully recovers from his fall.

Nathan, weren't you formerly employed by CenturyLink?

No i was not.

Must have gotten some erroneous info. One of my friends said he thought he knew of you from there. Were you an independent contractor to CenturyLink?

Yes call Lysander... he will set everything up for you and possibly pay your first months service (he did for us). Brighthouse has Comcast beat in every way. Here is his email address: Lysander.Jimenez@mybrighthouse.com
