A person with Caller ID "Allen Brent" calling from 940 594-9906 has been calling several times a day for a couple of weeks, but wouldn't leave message on machine so I finally answered it. It was a foreign male telling me he was calling from "Windows Technical Support regarding my Windows Computer" and needed to login into my computer to fix a problem. He said I would soon be loosing all my files. I told the guy that I was a computer technician and that I handle all of my own computer issues, and I hung up on him.

I did an internet search for "940 594-9906" and found many people are getting this call. These calls are a total scam. Don't give them access to your computer.

You are so right. I have had the same calls and some claiming to be Microsoft. Fortunately, like you, I'm a little bit smarter than they are. Scam! Scam! Scam!:cus:

Got a call from a 520-877-3528 phone number before and the caller said the same thing. Told me I needed to give him access so he could fix my computer or my system would crash. I knew right away that he was bluffing. Why not? I didn't have a single computer in the house.

Since you don't have any, you should have told him to go ahead and fix it.

It amazes me how many people fall for these scams.

You can do a Google search on phone numbers and it will tell you if it is a known Scam number. Many are from area code 940. They come armed with a lot of information about YOU. I had someone try to sell me a travel package and they kept dropping the price. Ended up at $199 but I knew it was a scam call. Once they figure out that you are on to them they usually will hang up on you. I went into my Verizon account and blocked their phone #.

The phone number that pops up on your caller id is usually useless if it relates to these scammers. They can "spoof" the number and have anything show on your ID that they want. Its illegal to use for fraud, but these guys are usually overseas so it doesn't matter anyway.

We've been here two weeks and have received 3 of the Microsoft calls and one from "the government" with $9,000 for us. It's frustrating. We've started screening our calls to avoid dealing with these scams. Does anyone know of a better way to deal with them? I never receive these calls in NY. Do you think they are targeting the 352 area code?

We got rid of our "home" phone and just use our cells. That solved the marketing and scam calls.
