Don't forget tonight is the annual celebration of Earth Hour. Per their web site:

Earth Hour: March 29, 2008 8 - 9 PM

- Cities around the world will join together in literally turning off the lights for one hour to offer leadership and symbolize their commitment to finding climate change solutions.
- Lights will be turned off at iconic buildings and national landmarks from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Local businesses and restaurants will also be asked to turn off their lights.
- People at home can take advantage of the hour by replacing their standard light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs.

This thing was started by the WWF (what the heck the World Wrestling Federation has to do with this nonsense escapes me) and is advertised as: "A global event created to symbolize that each one of us, working together, can make a positive impact on climate change."

Aside from the obvious, I see two potential snags. First, if you plan on mugging anyone tonight, it might benefit you to do so between 8 and 9. Second, since obviously billions and billions of people will turn off stuff for the designated hour, you might want to be careful about a power surge around 8:59 to 9:01. An extra aside --- wonder how many house fires started with candles we'll have tonight.

Thanks! I'd never heard of this. I Googled 'Earth Hour' and learned that it started a year ago in Sydney, Australia and by this year 20 more cities are involved. Nothing about the World Wrestling Federation, although they do mention a conservation organization WWF. Interesting! Here's the website: <http://www.earthhour.org>.

In fact, if you go to www.google.com today, the screen background is a deep black...when I first saw it, thought I had 'puter gremlins. Then, saw their fine print:

We've turned the lights out. Now it's your turn - Earth Hour.

In 2000 the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) sued the WWF (World Wrestling Federation) for violation of it's name etc. WWF (wrestling) changed their name and it's now evolved to WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment and still run by Vince McMahon.

So Vince didn't start it, although he does like to put "lights out" on a few people now and then.

There are those who would say the "WWE" does far more to preserve wildlife that the presumptuous "WWF", that the latter organization is nothing more than a cover for anti growth, anti capitalism, anti Western existence, a group that indeed wants to turn out the lights on Western Civilization as we know it, but that would be bringing unwanted politics into an otherwise innocent discussion.

But you will notice that this Earth Hour thing is the same weekend as Wrestlemania. A coincidence? I think not! Could Vince be the real power behind this movement? There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

Or some others might say, life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. :joke: You can take that to mean whatever you'd like.

You don't need a product, just a bill of sale.

I take that to mean that William Shakespeare is part of our forum!

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I certainly feel good about myself this morning. I turned off the lights for a whole hour last night, so the fragile earth is safe from evil polluters again. Boy it is wonderful to be so superior to the common people, but I'll redeem them whether they want it or not. I'm torn about my next effort. Maybe I'll drive to the Gulf Coast to preserve a vista or up to Alaska to save a caribou ~~ if only gas wasn't so expensive.

Dare to Hope for Change!!!
