USF has pulled out of its four million specialty-care-clinic at The Villages, according to today's Tampa Bay Times. The clinics will continue to operate as the for-profit Villages Healthcare.

USF blames the lack of membership in United Healthcare Medicare managed care plan for the reason for leaving. Only 6000 residents have signed up, when they needed 20,000 to make the numbers work.

USF has pulled out of its four million specialty-care-clinic at The Villages, according to today's Tampa Bay Times. The clinics will continue to operate as the for-profit Villages Healthcare.

What effect will that have on The Villages Clinics? The clinics were expected to work efficiently together with the specialty-care-clinic. That's where a lot of future savings were supposed to come from. If costs go up, who pays? That's what people should be asking.

I just read the full article and it sounds to me like the whole thing is about to unravel. What if United Healthcare decides to pull out of this area the same way that Physicians United did?

Actually if United Healthcare played less of a role and people didn't feel bullied into choosing them to participate in the Villages Health Care things might have worked out better. Open the centers to more medicare advantage plans and it might just help.

After reading the article I realize Dr. Sussman would make an excellent politician!

This is not new news. The same story was covered by the Daily Sun a month or so ago. This story just has a more Tampa slant. Not sure why the Tampa Bay Times did not write about this sooner.

Partly USF's fault, too. They did little to market the clinic to folks. They also insisted on using their own electronic records system instead of using the Villages Health System one - meant that you got to write everything down again for their records. They also had a totally underwhelming number of specialists willing to see patients.

Bottom line is more thought went into renovations and decorations that into actually running the clinic.
