We closed on our Villages home 3/20/08 ....I am here in NY and hubby is in TV..........well wishers have sent us mail and today I received two calls saying that the mail they sent to TV was returned. Was, is, there something we should have done to receive our mail?

Same thing happened to us!! We got our keys from Jane's outpost and she personally said she'd fax the post office we were here! The post office then returned all our mail back to senders for a month, including bank information, cheques and our Florida Drivers Licenses.

I finally realized the problem and phoned Jane's Outpost. She said someone had neglected to fax the post office!! I then called the post office personally and talked to our carrier to make sure she knew we were here.

Not a perfect system for mail by any means.

wow that could be disastrous
I suggest one goes on the postal web site and make sure it's done. Seems like "Jane" needs to stay at her post or have the wrath of Feds on her ummmmmmm never mind

My Wife and I will be renting for a month beginning 4/18. We have a contract from the owner and it shows the address of the villa. It also shows a different address for the mailbox.

If someone wants to write to me do they address the envelope to the Villa or the Mailbox address? I know the boxes are located in a central location and suspect the mailbox address is simply the location of the box but.... ???

Thanks

Have it sent to the Villa address, they will put it in the proper box where you will pick it up.

Rocky -- make sure the home owner gives you the mailbox key if you have mail sent there. Last year when we rented the owner didn't want us to use the mailbox. And this year when we are renting our place I'm not giving the mailbox key either because some of our personal mail may still come here.

Great Point Linda! I will put that on my list of questions to ask when I talk the the owner next.
Thanks

Hello All knowledgable Villagers..........

I called the main Village office to inquire about mail delivery and was told that we must contact the post office.........can anyone tell me which post office to call. Our home is in Poinciana. I tried USPS on the web with the zip 32162 and several post offices were listed.

Thank you
Phyllis ;D

I live south of 466 (area code 32162).
I was told by Jane's Outpost (who seems to control mailbox keys) to call the Post Office.
Jane's Outpost number is 753-6683
Post Office is 753-3888

Hope this helps.

We were given the mailbox keys at the closing and told (shown by the sellers as well) which box is ours, and though we didn't stay in the house till a few weeks later, we had no problem receiving our mail. I don't even know who Jane's Outpost is. We never had to phone any post office and didn't learn which 'official' post office is ours until we had to sign for and pick up a certified letter; then we had to go to Lady Lake.

The only minor problem we have is that occasionally there must be a sub sorting the mail and we receive some mail for the previous owners, which we just drop into the 'misthrows' slot and which we presume is then correctly directed.

You can even knock on the door of the mail center in your village when the carrier is there sorting the mail to ask questions or whatever. Hope this helps.

We were told by Jane's Outpost that we could NOT use the keys from the previous owner. That the keys had to be returned to her for security reasons, and they would issue us new keys, which they did. Jane also said she would notify the post office of the change, which she failed to do.

Because she neglected to inform the post office of the change, we subsequently had mail that was addressed to us "returned to sender", and had to call the post office directly.

Good luck with your mail delivery.

You will absolutely love everything about living in The Villages.

John N - Jane's Outpost seems to be the Village link between our mailboxes and the actual Post Office, she is the "keeper of the keys".

Phyllis, glad Jane's Outpost could help.
