Eddie and SusanWe had some very expensive wrought iron furniture "up north" that I tired of re-finishing myself. What I did up there was have it sand-blasted and the coated with a baked on finish. Since having that done the furniture could be left out in rain and even snow with no problem whatsoever. I don't exactly know the product used, but you can call Barbara Brown, the owner of the company in Elk Grove Village, IL at (847) 806-6986. She might be able to steer you in the right direction to find a company here in central Florida that does the same work.

We brought the furniture down here and used it for several years, selling it to another new homeowner a couple years ago. At that point the furniture was at least 25 years old and had been used outside with the finish I'm describing for at least 8-10 years.

Mr Kahuna has the best idea. What he is describing is having the metal powder coated. This is where after the metal is stripped it is coated with a powder paint that is electrically bonded to the metal, then baked in an oven at around 400 degrees. This way of painting metal is crazy durable. It will not chip or fade and comes in hundreds of colors. If you like the furniture and don't mind spending a little more money to have it painted, this is the way to go.

Try and Google powder coating in the area. Typical powder coating is done a lot in the automotive arena, mainly hot rodding but the process is the same whether it be a car chassis or patio furniture. Try these guys.
