A question for those with river rock...

We are thinking about installing the chattahoochee river rock INSIDE our garage on the floor, and wanted to hear from anyone who has had it installed for at least a year..We already know the contractor we will use..Our questions for the homeowner who has had it awhile are..
1. Does it really NOT stain from any car/golf cart debris? (oil,gas ??)
2. Are you happy with it?
3. Any regrets ?
4. Anything you wish you would've done differently?

Any advice you could give us would be appreciated!!!

I have never heard of anyone installing that in the garage. It would be best to call some of the companys who install that stuff and ask them about it. Most people paint epoxy or have it painted with some sort of design using paint .

We did it in our last home and will do it again in this home as soon as we get some other work done. The best thing is when it is wet or your tires are wet it does not slide like paint will. No regrets. Never noticed any stains either.

I have a friend that did it on her lani, as big as a 2 car garage, she has to apply an epoxy on it yearly, and has cracks in it, along with discoloration. I personally would use an epoxy base paint, thing Lowe's has it.

We did our lanai and outside patio with river rock (not done by the guy most people recommend but who we used lived in the Villages ad we saw their work in some of the stores years ago in Spanish Springs so we hired them. Worst decision I could have made. It looked nice for awhile, we did the maintenance of having it resealed or whatever it is they do. We experienced it coming loose there were always posse stones it discolored on us really bad and within about 4 years it was disgusting looking, thousands of dollars down the drain. We then because our neighbors had used them had Stone Creations rip it all up and do one of their designs and it has been so much better. I know Stone Creations these days get bad reviews but about 3 or 4 years ago when we did this they did a great job. We have had it resealed and it still looks great! So that's our experience :) Now for a garage our neighbor had that garage flooring put in I think it interlocks and they love it and it looks beautiful!

I bought my 2002 Lantana in 2010. It had chattahoochee riverrock on the lanai when I bought it that is now 12 years old. It is still in good shape and looks attractive but I have to recoat with sealer every year. It also can get black mold/algae on it and I have to power wash it a couple times a year (may be because my lanai is surrounded by hedges, palm trees and oak trees).

I know it needs recoating when the pool guy complains that loose pebbles are getting in the pool filters.

I just put epoxy on my garage floor a few weeks ago. I would never have considered the riverrock for that application.

Our river rock by Matt is three years old and looks as perfect as the day it was installed. Have not done a thing to it

From what I was told, there is a big difference between doing a garage floor or driveway versus a lanai with chatahoochie river rock. The OP asked specifically about doing a garage floor.
Our lanai has been done for about 8 yrs and I love it still today. I asked about doing the garage or the driveway and our installer did not recommend.

I think there is a possibility that some of the posts are referring to chattachoochie and some may be referring to what is called Poly Pebble in south Florida. It may be called something else in this area.

Poly Pebble is a veneer installed over concrete. It is mixed with epoxy and that is what holds it together. It must be resealed every year and cannot take rough use (chairs being moved in and out from a table, as an example). Chattahoochie is set in concrete. It should never be installed as a veneer, but only when a new concrete job is done, otherwise you run the risk of pieces cracking and/or coming out.

I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from using either of these treatments, but would never have it done as a veneer, let alone in a garage. However, both of those treatments have been used for 30 plus years in south Florida and are considered obsolete and behind the times.

When we lived in south Florida we had the chattahoochie broken up and removed around our pool and subsequently had pavers installed the correct way in sand and not as a veneer. It helped to sell the house faster because otherwise it looked very dated.

NO it is not OVERKILL. We did our garage with Matt a couple of years ago and would not change it ever. We drive a car and golf cart in and out all the time and it looks like new. Any dust or dirt that comes in sweeps out like a dream and we can use the garage for our driveway parties in inclement weather. If you want to see it PM me and we can make arrangements,

:BigApplause: Same here on all counts and hubby parks his motorcycle in there as well. We love having Chattahoochee river rock in the garage and would do it again.

Neighbor had driveway done. Hot summer and hot tires squished it up like hit tar. Might be ok inside though. Been in Fl 15 years, seen them all. Best thing to do is cement. Not slippery, no need to seal and last longer than we will.
