In case you're wondering why Nonie was so concerned, here's a couple of pics of the clouds taken around 6:00 pm. I literally made it to my garage and closed the door when the rain started. Gotta love perfect timing!
Yes, the clouds really were this dark.

Red, I hate to tell you this, but these clouds are very typical of Florida afternoon summer rains (albeit this is a bit early). But they roll in and roll out and the sunshine comes out again. Neat pics though.

VK,
Really appreciate your post. Guess I didnt realize that these clouds were a normal occurance in Florida. Scared the bajeebers out of me. I think its because I heard a woman say at the resteraunt" Yep! those are tornado clouds". what do I know?? They did look very threatening, High tailed it home in the golf cart and started to make plans of where to hide!
Still learning so thankyou for the info. Guess better safe then sorry tho! ::)

VK, I'd never seen them this dark, though. Big and dark grey, yes, but these puppies were BLACK. Remember, the sun was still out and shining in between clouds in other parts of TV. I wasn't particularly concerned except praying I'd make it home before the clouds let loose and I was totally fascinated by the different skies depending where I looked.

I thought the sky looked strange. Over Lake Sumter the sky was indigo/black and pink. My lanai was brightly lit by a ray of sun from somewhere. It was the strangest sight. I know we get some prodigious storms, but those cloud formations were a little different than the usual
thunderheads. I saw much more diffused lightening rather than the cloud/earth or earth/cloud type. It wasn't the normal heat lightning either. It made for a great show.

Having grown up in Ft. Lauderdale and away for some 20 years (we had similar intensely dark storm clouds), I really miss those skies. I am soooo looking forward to being in TV within the next few months.

Red: Thanks for the pics. OMG, I'd be hiding in a closet. Thanks all for the info and comments. I am sometimes worried about all this tornado talk.
Nonie: Once I move there (I think I'll get a weather radio) you and I can build a storm shed out of cinder block, underground, and hide in it. I'm there with you. Bet it was a beautiful site though. Thanks again red for the pics. VK: Look for a pm from me.

OMG the clouds from out lanai were both beautiful and scarey at the same time. Very black with shades of gray, then streaks of violet and pink. Our grass looked white at one point, while everything overhead was black. Also glimmers of sunlight. I watch the sky every night at sunset and every night it's a new piece of artwork, but last night was the most beautiful I've ever seen. Tonight it's raining some, but just your usual grey storm clouds. I'm amazed last night didn't turn into a tornado or something. It was really exciting! ;)

Keep in mind that this is the Truman show.......Did you ever notice that some of the buildings downtown say that they were established in 1881 ...In 1881 this was all a swamp.....this is all a facade ......Nothing is real here and that goes for the clouds too...they are manufactured for aesthetics in the southwest corner of the Village by a big cloud machine owned by the builder .....When his lawn get dry he just turns on RAIN......It really a wonderful system.....and so the next time you feel the clouds are to dark or your closet is to full.....call the developer and ask him to lighten them up a little .....I do that all the time and it has really cut down on my water bills...

I wonder if I could somehow bribe that guy to bring the sunshine in on those days when I'm feeling a little grey???

Fumar :agree:
Since we moved here in January, we've commented every day that this definitely is The Truman Show, Florida style. Today is sky number 42, partly cloudy with sun and light winds. Yesterday's was sky 33, fair most of the day, with passing dark clouds and rain. We are waiting for them to begin repeating...
We often wonder if we drive far enough down past 466A will we find the end of the set?

OK you guys, His name is not Truman, it is The Lord God Almighty. I praise Him everyday for the beautiful clouds he makes. They are awesome. The dark ones are just as beautiful as the white fluffy ones. Also the ones that look like fluffy dog tails and the other ones that look like beautiful feathers in the sky. Praise Him with me.

Our builder said to head for the master bath during bad weather as its the strongest part of our home........the prof. wind/storm guy said the master closet.
Years ago in Clearwater, FL we dreaded storms, as it is one of the lightening spots of the USA.

Great pics; thanks! We're finding the weather here both bizarre and beautiful and have been told that no matter what the weather is, it's typical Florida. One of our NY sons visited this week (left today) and put out mulch on the garden beds; fertilizer was put down too. When we headed out for lunch with him and our Clearwater son, also visiting, we got about a mile from home and the heavens suddenly opened up in such a torrential rainstorm that we could barely see through it. "Good," we all said, "it'll be perfect for the mulch and the fertilizer!" But do you think it rained even a sprinkle at our house a mile away? Do pigs have wings? At least it's getting rained on tonight....
