There are 5 kittens in the Lake Sumter Winn Dixie area that are about 12-16 weeks old. I will trap and fix them if anyone wants one. They will be quite scared at first but can easily be socialized to be friendly to their owner, although they may always be scared of strangers. I will socialize them for a few weeks first before you take them if you would like but I can't keep them for a long time as I will be traveling up to CT for the fall and winter. Please let me know immediately as I have to get them fixed and if no one wants them, I have to release them back to the parking lot.

We are at our limit with pets. If you are able to neuter them that would be the most kind thing you could do. Even if no one can take them and give them a home, at leat they won't multiply.

What about Pet Lovers or one of the other rescue groups?
I do understand that you are an extremely kind person and that you've probably already explored all options.
I know you've found homes previously for feral cats. Your efforts are much appreciated.
I wish you best of luck in placing these kittens.

Kittens from feral cats are a sad and ongoing situation in The Villages.
Sadly, kittens released to a parking lot will often get hit by a car or eaten by coyotes or starve.

Hi Bare,
Unfortunately, Pet Lovers Rescue didn't return my calls about other kittens so that is out. And most rescues won't take ferals and work with them. The only way to avoid releasing them is if someone is willing to take them in to socialize them and find homes. :(

I truly hope you find homes for these kittens.
So many cats seem to get lost in The Villages.
When I see feral cats living in parking lots and on golf courses, it breaks my heart.

Will Sumter SPCA take them since you were kind enough to trap and rescue them? Just a thought. Hate to see domestic animals released to a hostile environment.

Have you talked to Sumter SPCA, or are they another organization that won't take kittens born in the wild?

Hi Chris, I am the lady you lent the cages to. It saddens me to read about these kittens. As you know, I also help out feral cats. This summer I rescued a feral kitten and she is the best kitty I have ever had. These kittens can made good and loving pets. They seem to know they have been saved and reward you with so much love. If I didn't already have three cats I would happily adopt one of them. Please villagers open your hearts and homes and adopt these kittens. Don't let them suffer the miserable life their mother has.

The outlook for homeless outdoor cats is not very good, and for kittens, even worse.

I hope some Villagers will have the heart to help rescue these poor little things. Unfortunately, we have done our share of rescuing and cannot help

Sadly I can't take on anymore pets. I am familiar with the kittens and when I can stop by and feed and water. I'll be happy to help with costs of food, shots, spay, neuter. They are absolutely beautiful little kitties. The adults are as well. My cell is 804 314 0045. Feel free to call.

I appreciate what you are doing. I've noticed feral cats in TV. Once I move to TV I want to do something for those cats such as TNR. I am also in Ct (Fairfield) and I am involved with the Ct Humane Society here (cats). I have 3 cats of my own. In the summer, when my daughter is home, we foster and socialize cats. We took 3 kitty families this past summer.
Good luck.

My heros are people who care about abandoned and abused animals.
Sadly, so many consider pets disposable, once they are past the cute puppy/kitten stage or become inconvenient.
The life of feral cats in The Villages is tough and usually short as they forage for food and reproduce.
I hope someone can help with these wee kittens.

Thanks Kitty Litter and Bare- Unfortunately I went to feed them last night and there are TEN. 7 tiny ones and 3 teenage ones. I will call SPCA but if they don't take them I think I will have to TNR them. There are some people still leaving food there-if you read this and you are one of them, please use the bowls there. If you leave cans someone will get mad at the trash and cause problems for us. Thanks! :)

I'm sure some of you read my other post regarding this: I am working with Pet Lover's Rescue and I trapped one kitten so far. They were able to hold it and cuddle it! It has been to the vet and is now in a foster home and will then be adopted! Trapping again this weekend and on and on until all kittens are gone. Then the unadoptable will go to a farm. Personally I think the kittens are adoptable only because kind people feed them and they become familiar with humans. They are estimated to be more than 12 weeks which is usually the cut off for socializing feral kittens so I can only think that they somewhat trust people after seeing food being placed by them and being talked to. Thank you to everyone who has responded to these posts, everyone who has taken time to feed a feral cat and thank you to Pet Lover's rescue, and Bare, Kitty Litter, Duffy's Mom and CFrance for helping me not only this year, but last!
Chris

Have you contacted horse farms in the area and in Ocala? Barns are usually welcome places for cats. Keeps the mouse population down.

Beautiful. And a few of my non feral cats down through the years were leery of strangers too. So not too unusual. Feral kittens can become loving pets.
