View Full Version : In broad daylight villagers at it on a utility box at Morse and El Camino

Just picked this up from the on-line news...a potentially shocking act. They are both "underage" Villagers (40 and 47) and "had nowhere else to go" so one claimed.

How about finding a less busy intersection, under a tree, bush or even a room?

Is some sort of contest going on or is it mating season in The Villages?

Any electric suggestions for a new drink?

They are 40 somethings, probably not as interesting to the "hate the Villages retirement community" crowd. I expect it will make a little splash with a little ripple and that will be that.

Morse and El Camino? Isn't that a traffic circle? I doubt if they were doing this at the circle?

They found the beer still on their cart outside a home. Maybe they got over being thirsty.

It's the same woman, Gracie, but a different guy. She is 40 years old and was living with her boyfriend in Silver Lake. Neighbors tell me that they were evicted from the house they were renting. They also tell me that she's pregnant and doing drugs.

The article says that she now lives in Tierra del Sol and the guy lives in Orange Blossom Gardens. I believe that the guy stealing the beer was her boyfriend at the time.

When arrested, they said they had no place to go. Both live in the different Villages in what I assume to be a home. Even if they rent, it still has a bedroom and hopefully a bed! Does anyone know why they just didn't go to either home? Doesn't sound like either are married.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr

I don't think that the problem is renters. There are probably thousands of very nice respectable people that rent here. I hate to see something like this affecting them.

There are probably some unsavory characters that own homes here as well. If one of them gets arrested do we think that The Villages should rethink it's sales policy?

What I see here is a failure of the court system. This guy has been arrested and convicted numerous times of various offenses, some of them very serious. He has been convicted of contempt of court and several probation violations.

The record of the woman is not as readily available but she does have several priors.

We need to get people like this off the streets. They represent a threat to all decent citizens.

Ny wife read these stories and is now pressuring me to buy a gun. What I can envision happening is some innocent person being threatened by one of these people shooting them and then going to jail for manslaughter.

However, you do have to ask yourselves - "Who were these 2 people hurting?"

From what I read, they were behind a walled off area and not directly next to the road in full view of everyone. The incident was called in by a worker who saw what was happening.

Of course this is not the type of behavior that should be condoned or encouraged but it is a victimless crime. Yes, exposing oneself in public is a criminal act and the policeman did the right thing to arrest them - and they are not the cream of society - but no one was harmed by this incident.

What would you rather have happen at 8:45 a.m. ... a drunken, amourous couple getting it on behind a walled off area OR a store being robbed by an armed robber on Main Street of Spanish Springs?

Once again, this was a victimless crime. Who got hurt except the reputation of the couple? The Villages got smeared by Andrew Blechman in his "Leisureville" book so there is no going back on that - and that was about senior sex activities.

No one got physically injured in this escapade. No one got scarred for life in this escapade.

Neither participant is a stellar citizen but what difference does it make?

Both participants made a very poor judgement call - they will be punished. Don't make them out to be a Bonnie and Clyde. NO ONE GOT HURT!!

I use the adjoining cart path in that area and those boxes are completely surrounded by thick bushes. You would have to go into them looking for someone. Were those bushes just placed there to hide the area. The paper said they were in the open.?

Perhaps with this type of attitude you would like to offer the poor couple your back yard for their next tryst! Just be sure you close your blinds first so you will not be offended.

Sometimes I am amazed at the attitudes of intelligent people. Everything is fine as long as it does not happen in my back yard! Bull! Next time a home invasion is reported the culprits will just say they were looking for a place to have sex and we will all forgive them. NOT!

Because many have commented previously about the number of "under age" resident arrests, I ask this. Who keeps tabs on the percentage of people under 55? (Age qualified communities can include up to 20% under the age.) Does anybody really keep count?

And a comment from me: If these two people live here-- and the others arrested for lewd behavior, drunk driving, etc. -- then I'd like to see a judge give them sentences that involve community service, such making them pick up litter and dog feces every weekend for a month while wearing a sign. Or, would the progressives call this cruel and unusual punishment?

Both people are being held without bond! Both had records but nothing violent.

In the meantime, the 67 year old Villager who shot his pistol twice at an occupied car during a road rage incident is released on bond?

Which is the more dangerous - a couple having sex behind a walled off area or a man who shoots at a car for honking at him?

The guy in the sex on the box issue had a lot of previous arrests. One arrest said he was charged for using someone's credit card that he was house sitting for. I think we need to KNOW who is who in our community. A lot of newbies are very innocent about hiring contractors etc.

I don't see any reason not to share this kind of information with the community. Decent people don't act like that. I see no defense for what they did. We would have skinned our kids for doing something like that...............wouldn't we??????

We can know by clicking on the "Crime" Section tab of "the other newspaper" online. This was clearly sensationalized by putting it in the front page as lead story......catching the wave of tabloid attention from the Inside Edition trashing of TV, and the other couple that was arrested before that.

And as for the credit card fraud this loser did from house sitting, the homeowner got what they ordered if they hired the guy without doing criminal background checking, starting by doing it for free on all three county courts' online court records search, and then by requiring bonded/insured.

I'm out of state right now and the usual trashing of TV with claims of STD-ridden old white rich b*****ds is worse than ever. I'm starting to not mention I live in FL, much less TV. The raucous mockery of TV ruins conversation amongst people we came to visit and people we encourage to come and visit us in TV.

I can see your point, but it depends if you are the person who is responsible for prioritizing the news or the person annoyed by the fact that their beloved community is tarnished.

We have a granddaughter who was trained responsibly as a journalist but now makes her living as a television news producer.

I see both sides. I hate when this wonderful place gets bad publicity. But all it takes is for people to come here just once to see what we see.

It all depends where you sit sometimes.

Most people are just jealous of us who get to spend everyday here on vacation. I would think that anyone who knew you well would know that you have good judgement. AND I agree that some detail in the online news were not necessary.

The link posted by Manaboutown (Post #66) said that both people were being held in jail in lieu of $1500 bond. Given their prior records this sounds low to me but was obviously more than they could afford so there they sit. What is unfair about that?

The "other news source" stated, "Judge orders no bond for Villagers accused of sex on electrical utility box".

A $1,500 bond would have been reasonable for a crime that was victimless and was a non-violent crime.

Do you remember this poem from a lifetime ago?
Don't make love by the garden gate, love is blind but the neighbors ain't.

I guess not everyone heard it or took it to heart.

I was quite surprised the first couple got 6 months. Im sure they have regrets but hindsight is 20-20.
The second couple had the advantage of knowing that this sort of thing is taken very seriously in this community.

I wonder what the sentence will be this time?

I'm beginning to blame some of these landlords here in The Villages.... when you rent your home, do you as a landlord not consider it a priority to do a background check of your renter to be or is the dollar just more important to you? If I understand correctly, this time the guy may not rent here but she does and was a renter here in her previous law episode. If you are the type to consider the dollar that you rent for to be more important...then you deserve to end up with what you get....but unfortunately it effects the rest of us villagers...each time the integrity of this place gets drawn through the mud again.

just picked this up from the on-line news...a potentially shocking act. They are both "underage" villagers (40 and 47) and "had nowhere else to go" so one claimed.

How about finding a less busy intersection, under a tree, bush or even a room?

Is some sort of contest going on or is it mating season in the villages?

Any electric suggestions for a new drink?

is this the love bug season i have heard so much about ???

The last time something like this happened, I heard it being reported, on the radio, from a station in California. These events seem to get a lot of coverage. The question is: Is it good for businesses in The Villages, like selling homes etc., or is it bad?

The selling feature might be: This is truly An Active Adult Community! And: America's Friendliest Hometown.

The people involved the the two separate incidents were completely different types of individuals. The first was a case of a lonely woman letting her loneliness and alcohol get the better of her.

The more recent case involves people who are, shall we say, "well known to local authorities". The guy has an arrest record a mile long and the woman has been in a lot of trouble as well. They are both either on probation, on remand or out on bail. I'm thinking they will get much longer sentences, as they should.

Let's get priorities straight!

Nothing violent???

The guy had a recent arrest for battery and also for identity theft. grand theft and criminal contempt of court.

Both of people have long criminal records and are being held because probation violation.

They are part of a larger group of people that live on the historic side and have been causing a lot of trouble. A lot of residents are afraid of them.

I have no idea about the record of the guy who fired the shots. Although $10,000 doesn't seem like enough bail money. Nor was I at the hearing. But, he probably plead that he has a clean record and only shot at the car and not at any person in an attempt to frighten.

Say what you want about the criminal record - and I could not find "battery" on the record - but exposing oneself behind a walled section is FAR less dangerous than a lunatic idiot on a motorcycle shooting at an occupied car.

keywest: I made a similar observation about renting early on in this thread. I am not interested in leading the charge on anything but quite honestly there are landlords who buy up houses here, don't live her and are only focused on keeping their properties rented. At one POA meeting a resident complained that her neighbor a renter was a pedophile. He was thrown out and she said this unit was rented again, and again with a pedophile.

No, when we go to a 45 year class reunion, or a wedding or funeral where we see relatives /friends we haven't seen in 30-40 years, they DON'T know us and our tastes well enough to decide to spend their finite vacation budgets of time and money in a "tacky" town "full of old crabby STD carriers" that's not a beach vacation spot.

Most people need to use their vacation time and money for their favorite places like cruises or beach stays on the Gulf. These tabloid stories are heard too often for many to just disregard the tacky image they portray repeatedly.

I have no problem with Adams going to jail for a long time - but not for having sex behind hedges or a walled off area. I would think that is a misdemeanor and not a felony.

The motorcyclist who fired shots at an occupied car presents a clear and present danger to the community and should be in prison for a long time.

I don't disagree with that at all, but the perp's past record has to be taken into account. Criminal contempt of court, identity theft, grand theft larceny and battery are all pretty serious charges. I don't know what the record if of the guy who shot the car down on 466 but an accumulation of offenses can add to be much more time than one mistake.

This is titillating news because The Villages is a retirement community. If this had happened on a college campus as it no doubt does at least daily it would not be news. It would be yawnworthy at best.

I, too, am being teased by people who know I enjoy spending time in The Villages and may eventually become a frog. At times I think the people who tease me are jealous, bored with their own lives or both.

I think that stories that discourage people from moving here are a good thing. First, there are enough people here or planning to move here already. Second, people who think this is typical of the lifestyle in TV are obviously not very bright and I wouldn't want them as a neighbor either. When my acquaintances mention STDs and stage sex I glare at them and ask them if they are implying I am someone who would behave that way? Usually shuts down the conversation pretty quickly.

Stroglass, "the 55 rule" never went away. It is actually a federal statute. Any community that is designated as an "age restricted" community is required to ensure that a minimum of 80% of the dwellings be occupied by at least one person who is 55+. The community can impose stricter rules if they choose, but they cannot fall below the 80% requirement. The Villages could require 100% of the homes be occupied by people who are 55+ if they wanted, but they don't and to the best of my knowledge they never have.

Even though these two are not the top of society layer, the officer should have told them to get dressed and escorted them home with only a warning.

Arrested for that offense in such a seculed area is downright stupid.

Before you make a judgement, drive past the trysting spot and see if you can make it out to be a crime worthy of arrest.
