I am just now completing my survey from TV. Under suggestions, I am asking for Villages wide access to WiFi. This may sound ridiculous but it is really quite plausible. Large cities in the midwest and west coast, have already accomplished this on a scale much larger than here. We will never get anything done without asking. It is the my life's motto, "Dream On".

Good for you. I agree its very plausible and it would be wonderful. I am not there yet but hope to by the end of this year and I would love to see your request work out. Keep us wannabees posted on this if anything comes of it. Thanks!

This is a great idea and is indeed do-able. Maybe if enough people mention it on the survey, someone will listen. Or is that a silly thought?...

I also put it in my survey hoping that at least it gets expanded to the rec centers.

It has been on the residents council agenda but not sure where it has gone from there.

I agree would be a fabulous addition to the draw of TV as a whole, and if done as an addition to amenity fees, wouldn't be that much an increase. However, I am sure you are going to have some residents say that they will not use it, so why should they pay additional? I can think of two rebuttals to that.
First, you are already paying amenity fees, and does ANYONE use EVERYTHING available? Certainly not, it just isn't possible.
Second, the people that don't use computers should think of children that come to visit and do use them for work while away, or pleasure. And what about grandchildren visiting, and may have a project due when they get home, or just want to stay in touch thru emails with friends?
Oh, and while typing this, I thought of another!! Wouldn't it be nice to be able to say the heck with Comcast, or another service that costs at least 30 dollars a month up to what, 60 or so? The Comcast monopoly is darn near illegal, anyway, plus nothing being done to have better services which should be in place by now.

I totally agree. On my most recent month long visit, Wi Fi would surely have been appreciated.

Oh please may WiFi cover The Villages. We are here visiting and no coverage for our laptop. I am at the Savannah Center for a quick TOTV fix...would rather be doing this after playing, instead of now.
Thanks for trying.

As long as it is free and does not add to my amenity fees I say go for it because I will never use it. The cost of installation will not be cheap and somewhere there has to be an ISP to connect to. I am very happy with my setup (personal WiFi) and do not need another useless expense attached to my bills in TV.

I just had to eat a $1.47 charge for recycling that I doubt if I will never use. If you want free WiFi go to one of the centers that support it.

That is my feeling.

And yes, there are many residents that either do no use a computer or have a standalone desktop. Not everyone has a laptop and needs that service.laptops are a personal choice. Please keep it that way.

The service would not only be for laptops, why would you think that? Your home PC would benefit too. You are saying you'd rather continue to pay whoever it is you use for internet so much per month rather than a few dollars more on amenity bill? and since you brought it up, you are NOT going to recycle? I realize we all choose our own ways in life mostly, but that one I just can't understand.

My answer is Yes and No, respectively. I like my privacy on my secure network and the prisoners can sort my recyclables just like they did before the Village Green decided we needed to pay for it.

Explain how my home PC would benefit? I am at a loss on that one.

You do it just like anyone sets up a wireless network at home. A router sends wireless signal to whatever puter you have in your house, wether it be a laptop or PC. A card, or in my case, a antenna that goes into a place on your puter. A wireless card to pick up WiFi can go right into a home PC just as well as in a laptop that people take to Starbucks or wherever. Like at home here, I have a router, granted it is connceted to DSL, then have another wireless antenna type thing that just screws into my pmica slot (or whatever it's called, sorry, I am not up on alot of terminology, lol) on other PC's that I want to be connected to the network. So, wether you would have to have a main router to Pick up the WiFi and then relay it to your pc's via what I have, or if just a wireless card can be directly installed into your home PC I think would depend on circumstances.
As far as the prisoners doing it, the problem I have read is, that they can't order the prisoners to work anymore, it is on a volunteer basis, a little bit of money involved, but evidently not enough to make most inmates to get out of their bunks and do anything, which I find unbelievable, but if that is so, not enough want to do any work. Have always been a believer in mandatory work if you are a prisoner, but... so goes our system.

A shorter way to say it:

Wireless can work on Desktop as easily as Laptop. I have both in my house and some others that are wired (but I work in the business so it is more of a necessity).

I support the proposal if not to all of TV at least to the Town Squares and all rec centers.
