This morning I couldn't wait to see the new Publix store. I arrived around 9:00am and they were out of the free bags already. As I walked around the store I noticed many people had two bags in their cart and when I checked out the woman in front of me said "I got a bag for my friend too." I complimented the manager on their new store and asked how come people had multiple bags, she said they learned to late that people were walking back out and then walking back in to get another bag. Did I need a bag-no, it was just sad to me that some people were a little bit greedy. The new store is beautiful!!!

We also attended the grand opening this morning. We knew it would be a mad house, but were not prepared for the rude behavior exhibited by so many shoppers. We didn't get in the line for the free bag because I can't remember to take the ones we purchased (LOL). Beautiful store. Brownwood is definitely the place to be. Gets better every day. :-)

when there is something....ANYTHING...labeled free in TV you will find a very specific number of inconsiderates raping the system.
You can count on it like the sun coming up in the morning!!
We avoid ANY venues in TV where there is a free anything.

It is so surprising, and disappointing, people are so self centered. You would think by now, at this point in the journey, consideration of others and a humbleness would take precedence over "It's all about me." I doubt they would instruct their children or grandchildren to act in the same way.
As for the Brownwood Publix, hopefully this will help eliminate the congestion at Colony.

The sad part is their children and grandchildren have already picked up the bad behavior. The "sense of entitlement " here in the villages is pretty obvious a lot of the time but as they say, "there's always a way to beat someone at their own game." Thats the fun part.

I agree with BTK; I wouldn't even enter the fray. We drove by there at 9:45 on the way to somewhere else, and it was a zoo. People were parking outside the parking lot and walking in.
I am so glad for another option to Colony, though.

I just got back from the new store. Of course, it's beautiful, and I found everything I needed. It was fun to taste the key lime pie, bacon and blt's.
I do have one gripe (just one!). As I was leaving to go north on Powell Road, I couldn't do it. Only a right turn (south) is allowed. Then I had to wait at the stop light to make a u-turn. There is no frontage road, and no other road in or out of the parking lot except Powell and Hwy. 44.
Anyway that's just one woman's opinion.

We went to the Trader Joe's in College Park, Orlando a few weeks ago. It's VERY inconvenient. Small parking lot and on a very busy road. We went to one in Sunnyvale, California where our son lives; it's in a big shopping center, with lots of parking and lots of other stores and even restaurants around.

Someone once told me that Villagers would eat cardboard with gravy if it were free. I'll wait a week or so. Very happy that there is a way to avoid Colony. Winn-Dixie just doesn't meet the quality of Publix in any way.

Travers Shopping plaza next to Brownwood. Also, Winn Dixie in Pinellas Plaza also relieves the congestion......nice to have choices.

Someone told me that Citizens First Bank used to give out apples instead of popcorn but had to quit when customers would come in with bags to fill with the apples! Unbelievable!

I thought the ad said "free to the first 500 shoppers". If I went along with my wife, wouldn't I also be a shopper? Hence 2 in cart.

I cannot get too excited about another Publix. Same high prices as the other Publix stores in the area. Prices for most items here are far higher than they are in Boston Ma. A gallon of milk over $4 when you can get it for $3 at Sav A Lot. But I guess we Villagers do not care about that as we have a lot of money to stimulate the economy.
Just another perspective.

I went to MVP this morning and decided to stop at the new Publix on the way home about noon, took about 2 minutes to get there. I go right by Winn Dixie but I just don't care for that store. The new Publix shopping center parking lot was completely full, had to drive around for 5 minutes before I found a spot. However, even though this store is 9,000 sf smaller than the Colony Publix, it didn't seem too bad. It had a rather quaint feel that was nice.
The only problem getting around was all the suits standing in the aisles talking to each other, they must of had every corporate employee there. Some band's equipment was set up on the front sidewalk but weren't playing and hot dogs and cokes were for sale for a $1 next to the entrance. It seemed a lot of the clutter was this added grand opening hoopla. The one good thing, checkout had no waiting, I went straight to the cashier. I think I like this new store, I only wish Jersey Mike's was moving in, instead of Subway.

I laughed out loud when I read this. Was talking with some ladies on my street the other night about the opening and we all agreed we would go no where near where something was given away free. I did, however, shop at Colony Publix today, mid-day, no problem getting a close parking spot.

If you go behind Publix you can take Brownwood Blvd east and go 3/4 around the circle on Powell and head north

I just wish they had a Shop and Bag or Wegmans in Florida - Publix is not that great and Winn Dixie is really poorly run so Publix wins by default.

Have you noticed that Publix is replacing many items with their own brand? Quality is declining and price is not changing.

I was there because I got up and remembered it was to open. I was there at 7 ( too early) so I left went for breakfast and came back. They promised 500 bags but it looked like they gave out more. I was wondering if they could have given out coupons in the line for the bags and control it that way.
Just seems like feeding frenzy today. My wife wanted to buy some groceries but I thought the lines would be too long to check out but glad to hear they were not. The sample were pretty good.
Wegmans is one of the most exciting stores I have ever been in and if they came to Florida it would upset the Apple cart. Surprised to hear Publix will build at Mores and 44.

Lots of truthful comments here..
Win Dixie... not too truthful on their 2 for 1 sales.. was much better as Sweet Bay
Have not been to the new Publix but sounds wonderful (except for a number of rudies) I suppose stupid has no expiration date.
I think its a nice store to be added on the South End...
Now come on Publix lets keep this a nice store and that goes for your
sometimes more than needed in-flated prices.. but at least your 2 for 1 sales are honest.. (can you hear Win Dixie?)
Villagers come on lets do your part and act your ages.. keep The Village's
reputation up... its been going down hill in certain areas.. the news is reaching out of our towns and even the State of Florida..
We are all here for the best time we have left... don't ruin my time, please!

If a store in TV had a sign that said "Free Cow Pies", there would be a line around the block and people demanding rain checks. I have never seen the like of some of the greedy people here. Sad indeed.....

For years I've been reading about rude behavior on this forum. I arrived a month ago and have been all over TV and have not experienced it any where. I was at Publix today and it's amazing the results one can get from a simple hello, a smile, and patience.
I agree it's a nice store and it's only 2 minutes from Brownwood. How convenient!

We also went today, about 10:30 - to kill time while our pup was being groomed.
When checking out and yapping with the checkout gal, she said another Publix is being built (as mentioned by a poster here) down about 2 miles east on 44 & morse. We saw a lot of building going on there the last few weeks. The LAST thing I would have guessed was another Publix. I know,, the growth...but. Sure would be nice to have more variety. End of comment- enough of that on other Threads on this topic.

I have to agree with you and I'm glad you said it, not me.
Had I said it, I would have been blasted . . . for a change!
Not only selfish, but rude, as well.
Thankfully, there are enough nice people to offset some of the madness.

The reason for another Publix is that is what the corporate office of Publix deemed would be a successful venture based on the increase of population.
Those decisions are not made by us wishing for it or the developer asking for it.
I wonder how much money Homegoods lost by not realizing how many new homes were being built and decorated each week??
The demographers who give information to expanding businesses are snoozing.

I assume that all these Plazas are located on TV/Morse-owned property thruout TV. Seems as if the multiples of specific food/retail/restaurant have an-almost monopoly of these locations. Or there is $ kickback to the Developer for the locations. Not to be a broken record, said many times here...sure would be nice to have variety nearby - esp in the newly built areas of TV. These plazas tend to be mirror yadas.
Yes Gracie - a Homegoods or such...would mint money here.

Trust me, greed isn't confined to the walls of TV. When I was in corporate world we trained adult Girl Scout leaders on how to lead and motivate girls. Some of the Girl Scout councils I worked with would have giveaways at the end of the training sessions . . . pens, note pads, candy, the usual swag bag junk. A small percentage of these grown women would rake armfuls of the freebies into their purses, bags, whatever. These are the same women that volunteered to help make our Girl Scouts into productive members of society.
When I worked in another department for the same company, I saw similar behavior from a small percentage of well-dressed men in suits attending corporate conventions. They would literally walk the rows of these huge convention centers filling their bags with freebies, most of which was complete crap.
It is just human nature. To some people, if it is free, give me three! For others, if it is free, they are almost certain not to need it. I fall squarely in the latter category. I do not need one more item to take up space.
