The news of sexual misbehavior in The Villages is tragically becoming rather old hat and ho-hum at this point. Unfortunately people can become indifferent to shocking acts, sexual or otherwise. This is no longer a joking matter, at least to me. It is now well over the top and gotta stop,

As opposed to what ? ..... the very same stuff is posted on TOTV as soon as it is known and then commented on 6785 times. I have tried and tried to educate the posters on this board that EVERY TIME a comment is made, the clicker on the multitude of interweb sites that track interweb traffic (like google) goes up and up and in turn causes the story to be more wide spread.
As for the topic event ..... TV is a city of 100,000+ and it will have it's % of people like this .... just like anywhere else. Believe it or not, TV is not Disney World.

Something I do not comprehend. According to the article, the man said it was only a misunderstanding.
How can being charged with exposing himself at two different pools be a misunderstanding? Pulling up his swim trunks after climbing out of the pool if they had drooped too low? Tucking in the squirrel after getting up from a chair?
If there were recreation employees at all pools full time who would check all pool visitors as they come in the gate - and to be available for questions and complaints - this type of incident could be nipped in the bud.

These are your own words Abster.
"Sadly this place is no better than any other small town. It seems a lot of people bought into the idea of this being free of all bad. There are thieves, sex offenders, drug addicts and drunks. The best you can do is be aware of your surroundings and take the necessary precautions to afford yourself a safe environment. I do think the paper does all of us an injustice in not printing what REALLY is going on in the area. We continue to grow. With that growth will come many more problems."

That would be incredibly expensive! There are at least 72 neighborhood pools, maybe more by now.
72 pools x 12 hours per day x $8 hourly wage = $6,912 per day in wages for the neighborhood pools alone.

Yes, it is a considerable amount of money. It does not bother me as I do not go to pools too often but I have seen threads here regarding the pool crashers from outlaying communities and lots of posters were very angry at that. There was a thread about a man bathing at a pool, there was a thread about a drug user shooting up at a pool, and now a man exposes himself at two pools. Obviously, some people are very upset.
I proposed a possible solution. Are there any other possible solutions or is the consensus just to leave it as is?

I think the anti-social events are few and far between.
I've never seen pool crashers or flashers.
Full-time Pool Police seem unnecessary.
Isn't there a telephone at every pool to report upsetting activity?

Just what we need . . . Keystone Cops at the pools! Come on, folks. Aren't we old enough to handle this ourselves?
Weren't there any men at the pool when this incident took place? If so, they should have stepped up to the plate. Okay. Let's say there weren't. Was each of these women a wus? How many women were there? I'm sure they had their cell phones with them. There is safety in numbers, you know, and they shouldn't have been worried. Surprised or even flabbergasted, yes.
Even though this man is a degenerate, I am of the impression that there were enough people at the pool that no one should have been frightened. Had I been there I probably would have laughed as I was dialing 911.

They simply publish what is in the police log like most other papers in the United States.
The Daily Sun is not a newspaper as much as it is a marketing tool for The Villages. It is a good source for finding out what kind of recreation activities are going on and a few feel good stories about residents, but it is no way a newspaper.

The repetition of the circles, the impeccable manicured grounds, the cookie-cutter look of the houses, the same landscaping regardless of the model home (don 't come home drunk), the piped in Fox News radio throughout each square. Well I'm not touching the Daily sun that can get you into a whole lot of trouble with both posters and moderators
However, it is abundantly clear that some residents have had their rose colored glasses cracked.
It is also abundantly clear that any 68 year old man that exposes himself needs therapy.
It is also abundantly clear that there are a (good -some- a few) number of weird people living here. You choose the quantity.
It is abundantly clear that The villages boosting by the developer residents, etc
was the "sticking your chin out"moment or movement and people in or out of The Villages can't wait to respond.
It is abundantly clear that Spruce Creek and Del Webb Spruce Creek and Stone Crest are not getting this kind of publicity. Why?

Here is another take
In the comedy monologue of Smiroff (sp) he says every country has a city it laughs at. In America its Cleveland. In Russia its Cleveland
Perhaps The Villages is becoming the new Cleveland?
Perhaps we all might want to reconsider our positions and do something positive in defending our reputation. I'll be several letters to the editor to the Daily Sun and surrounding area might help.
Just a fleeting thought. I do hate that The Villages is being maligned

We who post and read this forum have known that there are all kinds of people here. I realized early on that The Villages didn't contain similar people although we are all similar in age. (DON'T START Jbdfan)
We are just as different as our high school class, our neighborhood back home, the people in our church or club and the people we worked with.
We are a spectrum of people, and some are easy to get along with and some are not.
Some have a moral compass and some do not. Some are happy and some are not. Some are financially secure and some are not. Some are healthy and some are not. We all have different value systems and some put eating healthily at the top and some put looking good at the top and some put their homes at the top and some put their church at the top and some put politics at the top, etc. etc. etc.
We have chosen to live here but the rule followers are having to deal with the rule breakers, the Democrats are having to deal with the Republicans and the not so rich are having to deal with the really rich and the young-old are having to deal with the old-old.
One thing we have in common is that there are far fewer years ahead of us than there are behind us and we need to suck the juice out of every day and enjoy this life because none of us know for sure who will go missing tomorrow.
Most of us have found out after the fifty five years that is advertised as our entry point that illness, death, heartbreak, disappointments, huge wonderful surprises and happy events that we have lived through do tend to make us more aware of what is good and what is useful and what is important.
We have 100,000 odd, um, people to pick as friends. I wish you as much luck as I have had. Being surrounded and supported by people who enjoy you and support you at this time in our lives is...priceless.
If you are lonely or sad or shy, my coffee pot is on and all you need do is message me.
Be prepared that I honestly, thoroughly and sincerely love this place.

I agree with the highlighted area but starting threads like this seems like adding fuel to the fire. Really, is there any safety issue here? Why do incidents like this need to be relayed to everyone. It is NOT a public service message and it will not prevent things like this from happening. The only thing it will do is inspire copycats.

Thankfully, the look has not only attracted Stepford Wives, but some really, really nice people!
TV also attracts people who've never built anything in their lives and didn't risk everything to invest in a business that is solvent and increases local tax base on unused pasture lands to hundreds of millions of dollars per year on into the future.
There are lots of nice mobile home parks around FL where TV haters can go and live cheaper and complain about TV from there.
"The Villages of Fruitland Park will generate “target” revenues that total more than $1.1 billion in a one-year sales spree that seasoned developers say is likely unmatched anywhere in the world. And that would mean a huge inflow of cash for a revenue-strapped city that hasn’t given its police officers a raise in five years.
How much cash?
Michael Prestridge, Chief Deputy in Lake County Property Appraiser Carey Baker’s office, said a safe estimate of assessed value on new homes is somewhere in the range of 85 percent to 90 percent of the sale price.
That’s around $850 million of new taxable value in Fruitland Park. Homestead Exemptions could reduce that amount to around $750 million.
Last week commissioners set the city’s tax millage at the rollback rate of 4.7371 per $1,000 of assessed value, which means new property tax revenues from the Villages of Fruitland Park could total more than $3.5 million per year.
This year property taxes will generate about $730,000 for Fruitland Park’s General Revenue Fund, which pays for ongoing services such as police and fire protection, street maintenance and the library.
The city’s total assessed value is $158 million—that’s less than last year, according to City Manager Rick Conner. The city’s 2014 budget is just over $5.5 million."

This is reported in The Villages Daily Sun just not on the front page unlike some other news sources. These others often lead with whatever titillating scandal/crime/ etc catches their momentary attention. Some crimes do make the Villages Daily Sun front page but these are usually the very rare felonies committed in or near the Villages.

Actually I love the Villages and I love my happy paper and happy people. When I was younger, I knew all kinds of unsavory people. The only thing different now is that they are older and some of them live here.
I personally want to give a little benefit of the doubt to the story. Maybe the man has some dementia going on or just some mental problems and it wasn't done maliciously.
Another day in the Villages. I think it's the spice of life ! ;)
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

One thing that makes The Villages unique are the many different locations the Residents have come from. There are many from the mid west who are easily offended and and have not been exposed to the real world, there are the ones from the bible belt who are also offended by some abnormal behaviors. Then there are the ones from New York City and other large cities who have been exposed to the various non social behaviors and understand the "nuts" that are out there and just go on with life. Anyone who has lived or worked in NY City would not become upset or take the time to write about it as it is to be expected when you recognize and have been exposed to the crazies that live in society. Life goes on..

I am not defending this guy first off. What he did is disgusting and if he wants to carry on with this kind of behavior, he should do it in the privacy of his own house and not out in the open.
Just have to share an experience that happened at the Pennecamp Pool with my daughter and her husband. We had a family joke that now that she turned 30, she was old enough to go to the Pennecamp Pool. As they entered the pool area, all of a sudden all eyes were on them. She was wearing a very conservative 2-piece swim suit and her husband board shorts. Nothing provocative or in bad taste.
They got into the pool and the women circled around her and said that finally there was "new meat" to look at because the men at the pool had "No Butts". My son-in-law felt very uncomfortable cause they were looking at him provocatively and smiling. He swam away and was going underwater a lot to not hear the conversations anymore. Then conversations from the "ladies" turned to topics involving underwater "condom races" and other inappropriate sexual comments. After a short while, my daughter and son-in-law left and came back to tell us. My daughter stated that the men at the pool never made her feel uncomfortable, either with comments or prolonged looks, etc.
Needless to say, when they visit here, my son-in-law refuses to the Pennecamp pool anymore. They go to a nearby family pool i.e. Allamanda.
A different experience happened to us when we went to City Fire in LSL for some lunch. My son-in-law, the gentleman that he is, ran up and opened the door for all five of us to enter. He held the door open to three ladies that were following us into City Fire. One of the ladies asked " Is there a cover charge today?" just being friendly, he said "No, It was Ladies Night" just engaging in a friendly conversation, well one of the "ladies" said "Well here's my ID", and pulled her blouse down to show off her bra.
I read the story with some ladies going to the Pennecamp Pool area being uncomfortable getting their mail or walking their dog, and obviously I am sympathetic towards them feeling that way and everyone should feel safe going anywhere here in The Villages, obviously, still be aware of their immediate surroundings, but these two stories keep popping in my head of what happened to my daughter and husband at the Pennecamp Pool.

So the edict is in The Villages is a substantially safer than most places. I feel better already:pepper2:

we who post and read this forum have known that there are all kinds of people here.

Upon reading the first posting on this thread, I assumed this was a recent event!
Reading The Daily Sun today, I see that the man reportedly exposed himself at a pool in April and September of 2013. He reportedly did it twice more in July, 2014.
The record from New Jersey was in 1990 (24 years ago).
He was banned from Villages pools in August, 2014 but without pool employees checking ID cards, still used them.
This is NOT news.

Did anybody really move to a community of over 100,000 people in addition to all the surrounding areas and think there would be zero bad apples and nothing nasty would ever happen? Come on.
A few bad apples, a few nasties, but nothing compared to most cities with 100,000 residents.
Sorry if I sound like Suzy Sunshine, but if we just focus on the positive, there is no safer or more beautiful place to spend our retirement years.

The Daily Sun article stated that this dude was banned from using the recreation pools after the initial exposing and discovering his past offense. Makes me very uncomfortable to know that this creep could have been near me at the pool. Too bad his mug shot wasn't posted at all the pools.

Charged with "lewdness against an adult", back in New Jersey in 1990.

I am from the tri-state area, and grew up reading about who was murdered, and who was raped, or robbed!!!! I can get that type of news form the internet, or just turning on the television.
I do want the happy news and occasionally will want to hear of the small crime rate, in TV. Nuff said!!!! The amount of incidents, as opposed to the total population, is minuscle! IMHO

Because I'm seriously hearing impaired I've relied on lip reading and close attention to facial expressions, etc. to communicate. Well, in a story that's a little like the bank robber in Woody Allen's movie who presented a hold up note that the cashier asked him to read for her, here goes:As I started towards a retail store door a young man approached me saying "do you want this?" and because I was studying him intently I didn't notice that he had his "member" in his hand. Not understanding him I asked him what? he repeated this mumbling, so I walked closer to him instead of hysterically running in the other direction. Finally he pointed down and asked louder, Do you want this? Bewildered, I just said no..and looked at him like Clint Eastwood would have.

I agree with your opinion that the Daily Sun is not a newspaper. It closely mimics many other things within our community. There is a sameness or almost cult-like look to TV that is apparent once you have been here for any length of time. No one questiones it and most people give TV accolades one after another. The repetition of the circles, the impeccable manicured grounds, the cookie-cutter look of the houses, the same landscaping regardless of the model home (don 't come home drunk), the piped in Fox News radio throughout each square. All these things are apparent and well planned.
Thankfully, the look has not only attracted Stepford Wives, but some really, really nice people!

If this guy were to flash me, I hope I would have the presence of mind to kick him squarely in his exposed parts. And hopefully, when he bent over in pain, I'd be able to connect my knee with his nose. And then, of course, I'd call the police. No one...man, woman or child should have to be "exposed" to such behavior. Is he mentally ill? Perhaps...but I don't care.
