Does anyone have any followup or update on the house on Society Hill Drive that had been foreclosed on by the bank but the couple was living there without water or electricity? I believe he was a foreign national from Sweden and had lost his pension.

That thread stayed several days and then disappeared. Anyone know how it turned out?

Oh my, oh my, oh my, what a disaster they turned out to be. They are from Denmark. Since I lived so close to them I took them groceries, out to dinner, bought her $95-copay eyedrops, did a load of laundry at my house since their washer had just broken, and took them to doctor appointments. In 2 weeks I learned why the neighbors were upset. These were the weirdest people I have ever met. Got DCF involved with help from another TOTVer. House was filthy, smelled. Kept trying to help them but it was like hitting my head against a brick wall. Others were going to get involved (we even had a meeting at Crispers) but after I told them some things we decided to just let things happen. They were supposed to be out by July 25 but got an extension. They called me asking for money but I told them to leave me alone because they wouldn't accept any advice. The social worker called me several weeks after they were to be gone to see if I knew where they were and I told her I didn't. She said she offered them subsidized housing but the wife refused all offers of help, saying they had a "plan." I don't know how they left because their 1992 Mercedes had been in the garage for 2 years and their golf cart had been in the shop since Nov '13. :ohdear:

I found the post to which you refer, but I don't know how to copy it in its entirety here. The post is from June and is titled, "Village Residents Upset Over Homeless Homeowners Who Won't Leave."

If you go to the "Search" heading at the top of the page and type in "Foreclosed Home" and click "Go," all the threads will pop up and it will be towards the top -- at about the 7th post down. The thread lasted for about a week.

No, I was not asking how the thread turned out - I meant how did the situation turn out.

From what KittyKat wrote, it seems they are gone. KittyKat sounds like a shining example of an angel combined with a Villager. Thanks for the info.

Thank you KittyKat for extending yourself so far for these people. Bless you! It must have been so frustrating to be trying so hard to help but it was going on deaf ears. A strange situation for sure.

About a month or so ago, I saw The Villages had that house up for sale. It was bank owned and if I remember correctly it was around $330,000. The house was a Gardenia and on a golf course.....I believe it was sold within a couple of weeks. Good deal for someone who was willing to put in some elbow grease.

Rubicon, I could get into much more info but it's personal. I would say dementia played a part but yet he was very intelligent, an electrical engineer. They just had absolutely no common sense. When I first got to the house there were many vines hanging down from the whole porch ceiling, ending just above my head; I have never seen anything like it. I told him they had to go and he cut them down the next day. But it never occurred to him to cut them down before I mentioned it.

After just seeing the listing, I see that the Villages did not have this listing.
The Villages cannot list anything in the MLS system since they are not
a member of any local board or the National Association of Realtors.

It was listed by a Realtor, not a Villages agent.

Thanks for correcting me. I actually remember reading the listing and thinking I know The Villages would never touch that with a ten foot pole! Guess I had a Senior Moment;-) Can't believe that it sold for $248.....WOW what a deal!

The Villages had to be asked to list it. It was owned by a bank, remember?

The Villages have listed many shabby listings. They run the business to make money just like any other company that sells real estate. A shabby listing or a shining listing all makes the same percentage when it's sold.

There was most likely a mold problem...no electricity or water for months. Also the photos show that it was filthy. Obviously, there was probably an auction which requires CASH.

This property was listed by a Realtor and was not sold at auction.
It went under contract last month but has not yet closed according to the tax roles.
