I read the other day that the average married couple moves every six years. I gotta wonder about that figure. Nonetheless I started to count up the houses we have owned. We were not the "average" couple, because my business kept me on the move.
House 1. Vestal, New York
House 2 Syracuse, New York
House 3 Des Moines, Iowa
House 4 Kansas City, Missouri
House 5 Albany, New York
House 6 Vestal, New York
House 7 The Villages.
How about "y'all"

Everything in MD suburbs of DC, til arriving in TV:
As a kid, 2 houses with Mom and Dad
As an adult:
townhouse for 10 yrs
house for 9 years
house for 9 years
TV for 18 months; 50 years to go
Guess I'm not too average.
I am waiting on my last move. Soon to be in TV. My moves have been:
1) Philadelphia, Pa.
2) Mount Holly, N.J.
3) Medford Lakes, N.J.
4) Lumberton, N.J.

Before The Villages, it was...
Grosse Pointe, MI
Fort Knox, KY
Warren, MI
St. Clair Shores, MI
Warren, MI (again!)
Evansville, IN
Riverwoods, IL (for a long time)
Sawyer, MI (a second home that overlaps all of the above and below)
Mallory Square in The Villages, Florida!
So in 48 years we've had nine homes, some for a little as less than a year and one for 37 years. Our "average" is the typical 5.3 years. I thought calculating our "median" stay in one place might be more definitive, but that only came out 7 years. Should I calculate the standard error of our various residencies to get a true statistical description of our life with houses?
If I asked any of my kids about this question, I know what exactly what their answer would be...Dad, you have waay too much time on your hands!

For the past 30 years, my wife and I have owned and lived in the same house in Gardiner, NY, a town so small that people who live there don't even know where they are.... And now we own our house in TV and are snowbirds between the two. I owned houses before my wife and I married, but she never did.

I guess njgranny and I will bring the average down a little!
After marriage, my late wife and I lived in an apartment in St. Louis, then one in El Paso, TX (good ol' Fort Bliss :( ), then the same apartment in St. Louis. Then, we bought in St. Louis and 42 1/2 years later I came here! Not very adventuresome, I guess! :joke:

Owned homes while married and/or divorced:
Concord, CA
Concord, CA
Pleasant Hill, CA
Antioch, CA
Rentals as an adult while married and divorced:
Monterey, CA
San Francisco, CA
San Bruno, CA
The Villages, FL
Actually feels good to see it written that I really didn't move all that much as an adult -- think Dad's career and Mom's wanderlust after he died took care of that concept.

As a married couple of 30 years, we have moved just twice:
Garden City, MI 8 years
Milford, MI, 22 years
Maybe if we moved more often, I would not have so much "stuff" to unload before I arrive at TV the end of the summer! What a job this packing is turning out to be. Can't imagine compressing a house, garage, pole barn and shed into one house without a basement. Guess the riding mower will have to up for sale! Guess Everything goes up for sale and I will start over with new (don't tell my husband my plan).
Can't wait to meet ya all!
