I believe they are the golf cart paths aka multi-modal paths.

I like to take my bike to Ocala to the bike trails there across from the inmate farm on route 25 or to the Withlacoochee trail in Inverness or Brooksville. They are paved and beautiful.

Nonie ... You're in Florida! The hills are minimal at best, but when you're not used to riding, they'll feel like mountains. Once you get used to them, you won't even notice them.

MFP509,

Went biking today at the Ocala bike trails. Your so right, they are beautiful and loved the fact that they are paved and smooth. Yes, Florida does have hills, and even tho they are molehills, they did feel like mountains to me, but loved it anyway. Thanks for the tip on these beautiful trails.

Nonie:

Thanks for the report on the bike trail!

About how far did you ride? What kind of bike?

Will have to check it out when we come down this winter.

On October 5th there is a bike ride on the Withlacoochee State Trail in Inverness. I do it every year. You ride as many miles as you want. I usually ride out to the first "sag" stop which is about 7 - 10 miles and then back. A total of about 15 - 20 miles. You can show up between 7 and 9 AM to register and it is $25 to ride. They provide a continental breakfast and then lunch. For more info go to www.railstotrailsonline.com I always register early and you get a T-shirt. Even registering on the day, there might be T-shirts left. Check it out - it is for everyone and a lot of fun.

Chuck,

I bought a Fuji easy rider. Very similiar to the Townie but less expensive. I think it would fit into the Hybrid category.
We did about 10 miles. Those little hills killed me but then I havant done any riding in over a year and wasant primed for it. In any case , 10 miles was enough for me.

Engr. guy tends to go much faster then me and I have this crazy notion that I must keep up with him. hmmm! I must get over that! LOL:rolleyes:

Nonie:

Yep - ten miles is a nice ride. We have Trek Hybrid's and rode two or three days a week all last summer to get fit for our bike tour of Tuscany that we did in October. We were great on the down hills or flat. Did about 25 miles a day on that trip, everyone was on Hybrid's except one show-off couple in their mid 40's (they were very nice but just with the wrong group).

We went with two other couples and may do it again next year (we should be talking to each other again by then). Maybe do a barge/bike tour of Holland or France?

I had a Townie and really liked it. Then I had the opportunity to buy a used EZ-3 Trike and jumped at it. It is a recumbent with 21 gears (of which I probably use 2, but they are there) and I am really enjoying it. Am looking forward to the ride on Sunday. In addition to the little breakfast and lunch, there are some vendors there and a bike shop. It is a cool day.

The withlacoochie trail is quite a jewel to have so close. Wide, smooth and paved it is easily accessed in Dunellon or Inverness. Everything from recumbants to road bikes to old fashioned beach combers.
One of the best rides I have found so far. A few long relatively gentle inclines, benches to stop and rest on.

Enjoy.
