I am always saddened by the responses from many people to crime stories reported on TOTV. it seems as though the perps must be classified into certain categories which of course are deemed as undesireable such as renter, under 55, living at home w/parents, living on the historic side of TV, etc.

To begin with, only news that posters know will be titilating is reported here. Please go to the other news site and actually read all of the articles in the crime section. You will discover that Villagers of all ages, village location, and ownership status are arrested every day for domestic violence, theft, DUI and drug possession, etc. I am not trying to point out that there is a lot of crime but that it is unfair to always condemn certain groups. Bad decisions can be made by anyone!

Please stop trashing the historic side of TV! I'll bet that the people who must refer to it as "trailortown" and "run down" have never even actually been through these neighborhoods and seen the many beautiful homes and yards. The three historic villages have a unique charm!

And for those that refer to the historic side as "trailortown" and "run down" let me say this - if it weren't for the historic side, The Villages wouldn't even be here. So instead of bashing they should be thanking Mr. Schwartz for his vision. Because of his vision folks can live in what is referred to as "paradise" regardless of what section they live in, whether it be the historic side or one of the million dollar homes. Each village within The Villages has its own charm. And yes, there is crime in the most affluent sections in the world as well as the most run down and all neighborhoods in between.

Those terms "trailertown" and "run down" were not used on this site. They were used on the "other" site where there is very little removal of posts or moderation..and many people who do not live here stand ready to be nasty.

The same things are brought up time and time again about why are so many people under 55 living here and are answered time and time again.

I brought up something in complete innocence on the OTHER SITE saying I couldn't find a person arrested on the Sumterpa.com site, so he must be a renter. I was shot down, beat on, slammed, kicked and spit on.

I couldn't tell you the upside or downside of renting. Many people may prefer to rent and let someone else maintain the property.

I have never uttered one word about the original sections of this town that was anything but positive or about RENTERS!. I am delighted that the developer is building new homes there and that the property values will increase..

Oh, my rant wasn't aimed at anyone or their viewpoints. Please don't anyone take it personally.

OH THANK HEAVENS. Whew. I regreted typing that immediately on the other site. I don't know one bad thing about renters.

As to the first paragraph's complaint about people categorizing, a couple of things are brushed aside. The people who read the crime stories about the Villages' residents live in The Villages and care about safety, property value and rules. Secondly, being a renter doesn't make one 'undesirable' necessarily, but what may be a complete ignoring of the rules and spirit of The Villages is very undesirable to me.

Anyone who has read news sources and specifically police reports in them cannot help but see the parade of 'under 55' arrestees. If I bought into a particular set of rules and regulations, and relied on the truthfulness of the statement that this community is over 55 except for a 20% statutory exception, then, yes, I, for one, will ask serious questions.

It is very unfortunate that the thread went away before my question was answered by anyone with knowledge. Does the 80/20 rule anticipate all persons here occupying homes, i.e., renters and owners, or does it only mean homeowners.

There was nothing in the thread saying anything derogatory about any part of our Villages. I really don't recall such posting in the recent past, but I could be wrong. Maybe the reference to purported insults to the Historic section was about one or two idiots only. Complaining about these jerks in a thread and using their alleged descriptives only serves to titillate.

I care about The Villages. And I am not a real estate person.

And I'm with CarolSells and Gracie Girl and everyone else who like the "historic" section. There is a home and a village/location here for just about every taste and pocketbook. Can't we just all be happy to be here? Personally, I'm happy in a 1987 model manufactured home on the golf course. I'm thrilled to have every type of home here so that all kinds of people can have their perfect retirement home -to rent or own! Almost everyone I have met is happy to be here. We are blessed to be here --and to have good, trustworthy police to take care of the few who are bad people.

There is always going to be rich people that turn there nose up at the less fortunate and middle class people that hate the rich. I think it is very sad for wealthy individuals to look down on others. I am also disturbed by the envy I see of hard working individuals that became successful.

Be thankful of what you have and pray for good health, nice children, and good friends.
