I would like to know in general where people lived before retirement. I remember on the tour bus the narrator saying that most people who live here are from Florida. Although that may be the last place you lived, I wouldn’t think of Florida as your home state if you spent the first 60 years in Alaska. I would like to know the percentages. I find statistics interesting.
Moderator if you are reading this; Does TOTV keep statistics?

Look in the new Villages phone book. Broken down by state and city.
Try calling the sales office.

In Friday's postal mail, we got a monthly Villages Sales newsletter from Adam Roma.... it included an insert that listed all August closings by Village .... showed the person's last name and where they moved from (many of which were prior Villagers).
I was glad to see this again. They used to print this monthly in the newspaper but quit doing it about 5 years ago.
That will certainly give you a flavor of where current buyers are coming from. I hope this will become a regular feature.

There is a board in the sales office listing the new home owner and where they hail from

When we bought, I think we filled out the information at closing for the phone listing information. Even so the phone book listings are incomplete, showing for some, but not most. I know of someone who bought a preowned home that wants to add their former residence information, but don't know how to get it updated. Maybe someone here knows.

I would think that they would as it is very useful for advertising purposes.

There is a big board int he Lake Sumter sales office that has a list of all new homeowners and the state from which they moved.
In my case it was a bit off. I am originally from Massachusetts, but my residence prior to coming here was Manila in the Philippines. My wife is from The Phils so the information is not 100% accurate.

I used the new phone book as someone suggested. If each column on each page is 100 couples this is how the population looks. The total is 51,575 couples. I do think my numbers are off because some pages list many names and few cities and some pages list many cities and few names. Not everyone is part of a couple too.
I'm going to take a closer look at my home state New Jersey and try to get a more accurate count. If anyone wants to take a closer look at their home state let me know what the new more accurate number is and I'll make the change.

They keep stats on everything -

They list where ever you tell them. Even though we are both from WV, we're listed under NC because that's where we lived before we came to TV - and that's what we noted.

When we were renting in The Villages for two weeks in December I saw the phone book and found out that 12 homes were phone numbers of people from Fairmont, West Virginia, which is in Marion County, where I was born -- in Monongah.
I thought it was a great idea. When we come down for three months in January, I may call some of the Fairmont people and see if we have mutual friends.

I think you are right about a lot of people moving within Florida.
We moved from Tampa to T.V.
Originally from Long Island.
On the board we were listed as Florida.

The stat we have been told a few times is that about 50% moved from other places in Florida. Would include both people who lived and worked in Florida before retiring and those who retired somewhere else, and also those who maybe were snowbirds somewhere else and moved here upon being frogs. Were told more from Florida than any other state - next state was New York.
Seems like I meet an awful lot from Massachusetts.
