And what took you so long to figure that one out???? No matter what your political persuasion, it is painful. (hope Mrs. Handi is better!)

Handie, shouldn't this post be in the political forum? ;D

You and Mrs. Handie have a safe trip Saturday!

Hey Handie I am sure they are going to move this post but anyway while it is here; why do you torture yourself reading all those well intended opinions. You will never be able to sway or make a point when folks have their respective minds made up. If anything, a debate club would be more enlightening instead of insults and innuendos being tossed around like a salad making class. BTW hope Mrs. Handie is feeling much better and keep her away from the Political Forum!!!!!

Join the club Handie. Haven't posted in political (unless something was moved there) and never will.

Didn't realize there even was a political forum. Who needs that :edit: ?

Ditto. I have never once even opened the political forum. I know that the world is filled with people who cannot view, say, a beautiful sunset and not think of it in political terms. There isn't a category of life, for lack of a better way to put it, that can be more filled with the position of "Don't confuse me with the facts; my mind is already made up." Personally I have no interest in being part of a mind-set like that....

I admit to being a political creature. I like arguing politics so long as they don't get into the namecalling. I've enjoyed some of the threads in the political forum here. Others have truly saddened me because they were nothing but the 4th grade tit-for-tat posts. So, thanks to those who have contributed, made comments that were reasoned, thought out and taught me something along the way. For those who chose to resort to namecalling and other childish acts :-P~~~~~~~~~~ (gotta love a Bronx cheer, eh?).

Like reasoned political posts. Even enjoy some times the nastier personal posts as long as they stay within the boundaries of the non-libelous and non-obscene. Got a ton of those when I posted on Findlaw's message boards-- I mean very nasty personal attacks from someone I would not know if I walked past him or her on the street.

The only thing I learned from the political forum is where the term VILLAGE IDIOTS came from .......If this is name calling , so be it.
Never read so many ill informed comments with absolutely no substance....
Most people just want to hear themselves talk and contribute nothing.....

I can be more self righteous than you can!!!!

Since I'm obviously more offended by "these people" then I'm equally obviously superior. God I'm wonderful!

So THAT"S where the term "Village Idoit" came from--the political fourm.

Thanks Fumar

I give you an 'A' for stating your position.

I give you a 'D-' for being so intolerant you are willing to give up your opportunity to make a meaningful contribution.

Once again the few (those who meet your allegations) prevail over the majority (those who are well intended).......

I know it is easy to say it isn't worth it, however it is a micro cosmic example of the bigger picture i.e why more than 50% don't vote.....more than 80% will not speak up......

What a pity.....one of your responses in the political forum could have been a turning point in thought, belief, perspective or needed to make a majority.....or ignored!

Just bring your thick skin....come on in....just glide over the short term waves caused by those you dislike....

My 2 cents on a very gloomy Sunday morning.

BTK,

For a change, I absolutely agree with you. Apathy is the larger problem.

Being from a political town, I am used to lively political debate. It is certainly NOT egregious to offer differing views and I would never dislike someone for having a different point of political view.

The posts in the political forum are, after all, just opinions and snippets of fact. They don't anger me. Sometimes I shake my head and sometimes I see a valid point. The silly banter makes me laugh. So be it.

It does make me wonder why, with all the complaints of current elected leaders, people are so unwilling to get involved, even if just reading or posting to a forum.

We are a country based on freedom of choice. If we were of one mind, we wouldn't be America, huh? If James Carville and Mary Matalin can achieve harmony in a marriage with such diverse views ( just agree to disagree), surely we can do it in a forum.

It's a beautiful day!

BTK, all we are saying is the Political Forum has a problem with civility and credibility. I think most posts are worthwhile and are well intended by the poster. It is when every couple of posts we have "incoming". A radical bomb thrower who lost his leverage on his or her prior posts and begins the childish name calling and as we say in Jersey "digs". That's the person or persons who turn me and most of the above off. Meaningful discussions are one thing, out and out bull....( "An offensive term meaning to try to intimidate, deceive or persuade somebody with deceitful or foolish talk") is another. Clean up the forum and get the people back who want honest discussion. My two cents.........

There is also the option of just not reading the poster whom you have identified as attempting to start a flame war on TOTV. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming_%28Internet%29

Flame off. :joke:

I'm a member of several large boards and people can get down right mean sometimes. Don't know why some have to be like that but it is what it is.

One of my favorite motorcycle forums (66,000 members, over 6 million posts) has two boards down at the bottom called Jo Momma and Exploding Heads. Posts are moved to Jo momma that start to get too strong. Exploding Heads are for people who completely lost it in a post. Some are unbelievably brutal. Some even strive to get their post moved to Exploding Heads like it's an award or something.

When you are in a public forum you are dealing with thousands of varying levels of education, opinions, personalities, political backgrounds, personal histroy and experiences, age, moods, etc, etc, etc. Add anonymity to that and you can see where some people can go.

The one thing you CAN'T do is take things personally. Recognize it is what it is and skip to the next topic.

TOTV is tame, even in the political board.

Tal, in all due respect, I don't think you understand my point. We don't want to see that kind of post at all. There is no place in TOTV for that kind of nonsense. You are right, there is an option not to read that poster or posters. Some of us went a step further and don't read the forum any longer, period. Just read the posts on this thread. They say it all.

Even though I'm Canadian I do enjoy the political posts and the diversity of opinions.

The moderators are already getting flack for moving posts around .. can you imagine if TOTV had a Jo Momma and Exploding Heads section. :a20:

The people on TOTV seem way too nice for a Jo Momma and an Expolding Heads section. Seems to go though with what kind of posters read and use various boards. Findlaw which had lawyers, lawyer-wanna-bes, criminals, judges, CSI fanatics, and the like could be a free-for-all. That is before they started censoring it very heavily though.

Who are those crazy people on the political forum anyway? >:( Oh, MOI? :o
LOLOL I think it can sound nastier than it's really meant. Also, I don't take things personally and I hope others don't either. Just debate, with a little all American mud-slinging!

p.s. Handi! I didn't know you could read! :joke:
