Does anyone have any experience with Direct Buy. This is a company franchised troughout the US that offers greatly discounted prices on furniture and other home goods (tile, flooring, kitchen cabinets and appliances etc) BUT you must join their program at a cost of a couple thousand of dollars. I believe the closest store to the Villages is located in Sanford Florida.

there was a consumer segment on television I saw on this and there conclusion was there was no benefit of this program. You could buy the same things for less without the join price and closer to your home.

Here in Boston one of the local TV station consumer advocates did a report on Direct Buy exposing them as true ripoff artists. Some customers even claimed to have been coerced but I don't remember the exact circumstances. Other folks said it was totally a waste of their time and money.

About 25 years ago, we received an invitation to visit one of Direct Buy's warehouses in NJ......then they wanted $5,000.00 to join. The sales technique was similar to time share sales, after refusing the initial salesman, we were then introduced to his manager and so on. Needless to say, we thought the items they were selling were very overpriced and did not join. Hadn't heard of them for a very long time until about a year ago. Have you checked with the BBB?

Direct Buy is OK with the BBB but you are correct in that they want about $5,000+ for a 2-3 year membership. We have seen that that do offer good prices but to make up the amount that you would have to spend to recoupe the $5000+ membership fee.....that I have to question.

I can't recall specifically what, but I have heard things about this company that would certainly keep me from dealing with them!

$2500 entry fee could buy a lot of furniture, especially in this day and age when so much is available at far less cost than ten years ago. ( I suppose because much is being imported from China, but that's another issue)

On DIRECT BUY, my husband and I went to an exhibition on Homes at the convention center here in Cincinnati last year and stood by the booth that DIRECT BUY had. We were turned off by their rather aggressive selling style, and walked away. Sometimes you just "know " something by the kind of approach people have. At least we woman think we know. lol.
