TAVARES �The Lake County Community Safety & Compliance Department is reminding residents that the end of daylight saving time on Sunday, Nov. 2 marks the beginning of once-a-week landscape irrigation.
These mandatory watering restrictions will last from the first Sunday in November until the second Sunday in March. Homes with odd numbered addresses may water on Saturday, and homes with even numbered addresses may water on Sundays. Non-residential properties may water on Tuesdays.
Irrigation is not allowed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and is limited to no more than � inches of water per zone per day. Watering should be limited to a maximum of one hour on irrigation days and only in the amount necessary to meet landscape needs.
Irrigation rules apply to water withdrawn from ground or surface water, private wells or pumps, or from a public or private utility. When reclaimed water is available for use, the use of private irrigation wells is not allowed. These limitations apply to all landscape irrigation not currently regulated by a consumptive-use permit. Typically, this includes residential, commercial and industrial establishments.
Residents who have an automatic lawn irrigation system installed after May 1991 must maintain and operate a rain sensor device or switch that overrides the system when adequate rainfall has occurred.
The Code Enforcement Services Division has been enforcing landscape irrigation rules since May 2009 after the Lake County Board of County Commissioners approved a local ordinance, which mirrors St. Johns River Water Management District rules. The first violation of the ordinance is a written warning. The second violation is a minimum $50 with subsequent violations doubling each time to a maximum of $1,000 for each violation.
