We went out about 2:30 or 3 pm this afternoon and saw a Community Watch truck at the Sunset Point gate. Then we saw another one at the Liberty Park gate. We didn 't think anything of it until we saw 3 Sumter County Sherifs Dept cars and 2 Community Watch trucks at the Seabreeze Gate, all with lights flashing and all officers out of their vehicles. At the St James/St Charles gate there was another Community watch truck. Anyone have any idea what was going on?

The community watch trucks have been at the St James gates for maybe about a week. I doubt they were there for any possible reason connected with all the others,

They are there so those who want to get in to early voting polling spots don't have trouble getting in the gates. I hear there was a complaint by someone because of the polling places being not easily accessible for someone (some people never cease to amaze me what they can complain about).

A neighbor told me it was for those individuals who live outside the Villages and want to vote.

As the original post was dated on a Sunday - a day the polls were not open - I seriously doubt the law enforcement presence had anything at all to do with letting people through the gates to vote. Good guess - wrong day!

Actually, the Community Watch are at those gates, not only to open the gates for the early voters heading to Allamanda but to give them directions. And I do believe, although I could be wrong, the early voting places are/were open on Sunday.

I could swear that Sweetie read to me something that said the polls are open on Sunday.
In fact I remember seeing that they were busy yesterday coming home from golf.

I've talked to Community Watch and they are there to facilitate the easy entry of Villages non-residents to polling places... There were some complaints to the district that polling places were a little restricted and folks didn't know how to get there.
Not a big deal and it helps folks vote....

Would it really take personel from 3 Sumter County Sheriffs' vehicles and 2 Community Watch vehicles? All with lights flashing?

They have to be somewhere. If they got an emergency call they could leave.
Two weeks ago at about a quarter 'til two in the morning, our phone rang. It was Community Watch. We had forgotten to close our garage door.
They work 24/7, and many thanks to them.
The polls ARE open on Sunday.
Next?
Patty55 always says that. I always wanted to.
Good Morning everyone. It's a beautiful day in The Villages.
Patty55, WHERE ARE YOU?

Big Guy, I'm sure when you saw a lot of Community Watch trucks and Sheriff cars, there was more going on than helping the few per day that may need directions. The Community Watch only puts one truck at about 2 or 3 gates to help. Obviously, there was more going on than simply giving directions.

A responsible voter reads, listens and EVALUATES issues and candidates.
How can people that cannot figure out how to go to the Visitor Entrance and push a red button without help from a team, exercise enough critical thinking to vote responsibly?

Perhaps The Villages doesn't want another federal agency sniffing around to see what's going on, in addition to the IRS.

That's like asking how can people who have been driving for 20 or 30 or 40 years not know to stop at a stop sign? But they don't always do it.
