Can anyone explain what the VCDD spec mait fee added to our property tax bill is for and how it is determined? Isn't this something new from last year?

Set when you purchase your home, you pay it every year, plus, fire dept. fee, plus bond annual payment if you have one.

From the link above:

Remember: Even if you pay your bond assessment, there will continue to be an annual maintenance assessment that pays for the ongoing costs of maintaining the infrastructure.

The annual maintenance assessment is a nice way of saying municipal property tax. It is not part of the bond on your home. That is a seperate item.

Pages 20 through 25 can give you a pretty good handle on what it is. And the report itself can be eye opening

To simplify, the Sumter County Tax Collector has agreed to collect the bond payment and the annual maintenance fee. I'm sure he gets a small piece of the action or some other consideration.

You agree to the fees when you purchase your property. I look at them as additional real estate taxes when I compare taxes around the country. But they are not deductable on your income tax return. They are set from the operating budget.

The maintenance fees are for the upkeep of the various areas in your CDD. Lawn mowing, plant replacement, etc. Who do you think pays for the beautification of your area? You and the rest of the people in your CDD.

It is the same in all CDDs.

It is not that big a deal.

Somebody has to pay for all those flowers that we all enjoy, might as well be the residents who enjoy them.
