We'll soon be in TV looking for our permanent home. We'll be renting for a few months.

Any advise for people (that would be me) who has absolutely no sense of direction. I have a navigator (Garmin) and use it routinely even if I know where I'm going.

How long does it take the less than average person (who can't read a map) to find their way around TV? I assume the navigator won't work on golf carts going through tunnels, etc. I can just picture myself going round and round and round those roundabouts never to find my way home!

Morse Blvd generally is the main North - South road in the middle of TV.

466 is the main East West Road in the middle of TV

441/27 is on the East side of TV

301 is West of TV

42 is North of TV

466A is South of TV

Markets of Marion Flea market is on 441 about 5 miles North of TV on the left.

Spanish Springs Town Square is off of 441
Lake Sumter Town Square is off of Morse Blvd south of 466

North is toward Ocala
South is toward Orlando
East is toward Daytona
West is toward Tampa

Our son (in his 30s) and his girlfriend love TV and in particular tooling around exploring in the golf cart. The handheld GPS system does indeed work in the golf cart, and the tunnels are short enough that you won't have much chance to lose the signal in them.

The post previous to mine, coupled with a map and the GPS, will get your around. People are extremely friendly, so if you're lost, just ask. TV is pretty big, and in truth it is easy to get lost especially on smaller roads. But eventually you'll figure it out, though not likely on your first visit other than the basics.

Renting for a few months is a great idea and will give you a chance to find your way around. Good luck!

I think in the website www.thevillages.net I found a map of the major streets in TV. This will get you at least closely to where you want to be.
Try to remember that Morse Blvd. is the North/South artery through TV. It Will take you out to 441/27 and south to 466a. 466 is the East/West route which takes your to 441/27 south and Rt 301 at Oxford where all the new stores are at.
Now Nanci, also remember, getting lost in TV is a rite of passage, and you must get lost at least once to become one of us ;D
Hopefully your GPS is updated with all the new parts of TV. A GPS can be a woman's best friend

Do you have a place in TV? Do you intend to move there? Why did I think Pleasant Hill?

Nanci,
I came here thinking I would never find my way, well I do and it is actually easy. Just get the big TV map and study it for a bit.
Morse and Buena Vista run North to South as does 27/441. They are intersected by 42 at the northern end 466 in the middle and 466A on the southern end.
It will all become perfectly clear when you start to drive around.
Even the golf trails will become automatic, you just have to experience it.

Let us all know when you arrive. We'll get a lunch welcome organized for you.

I'm one of those who can usually find her way no matter what. My daughter, however, can get lost in a store she's shopped at many times. One day she met me at Crisper's and then drove home. I left after her, got home at least ten minutes before she did. She didn't turn on Buena Vista nor Morse. Instead, she followed 466 to 441 and then found her way home. (Yup, they do meet up.) The point is if a person as challenged as my daughter can find her way around here, anyone can -- even if it does take longer than it would the average person. It really is hard to stay permanently lost here.

Yes we do.

Yes, as humiditybirds in the winters. We also have a 1910 Victorian that was my wife's grandmother's retirement home in Lakeport, Ca on Clearlake (an hour North of Napa Valley).

My Norcal twin Redwitch is from Pleasant Hill. I drive thru it every work day going from Vallejo (Kaiser Hospital Expansion - I'm a Mechanical Construction Project Mgr) down I-680 to Niles Canyon Rd to Union City.

Looking forward to retiring (maybe only half time) next winter.

Chuck, I took the liberty of putting in the musical notes into your quote. When I was in grade school (a very very very long time ago), we used to sing those words when someone said a "bad" word. Then we would say, but if its in the dictionary, it isn't a bad word!!

Well it is in the dictionary, I know, cause I didn't know how to spell it, so had to look it up.

Chuck, that was an excellent way to get around the Villages. Just one big square. Learn the four main street and if you feel lost, just keep going. You'll hit one of them. We have a GPS also Garmin and it works north of Bonita Ave, but not where we live yet. But if I can find one of those four main streets, I'm home! It's just really one big square, despite all the twists and turns it appears to be. And Handi, dahling, I won't even go into what a woman's best friend really is!!! :joke:

How long does it take the less than average person (who can't read a map) to find their way around TV?

Nanci, I think you will find it incredibly easy to find your way around TV. At first it seems confusing, but the longer you live there, the smaller TV becomes. It took me a few months to become completely familiar. I did it gradually, going a little further each time. I was so proud the first time I drove my golf cart from Southern Trace to Lake Sumter Landing to Spanish Springs via Morse and home via El Camino.

I memorized the boundaries as ChuckinCA suggested, and then it was a piece of cake. I didn't drive my auto in the roundabouts for three months because I was skeered. But once I did it, it was easy peasy.

Good luck, Nanci, there is nothing more fun in the whole world than finding a new home in TV! Have a ball!
