I am looking for a dentist who does not use silver, gold, or other metal crowns, and who will not run up the price with unnecessary dentistry. Naturally I want someone who is competent.

My husband and I use Dr Hall at Village Dental who offers porcelain crowns. We have found the doctors at this practice will offer treatment that may be more cosmetic than necessary. A patient always has the option to say "no" when the treatment plan is offered. We both think that Dr Hall is an excellent dentist and my husband has refused dental work that he felt was not needed.

I never heard of a crown being made of pure porcelain, although, I suppose it's possible. The problem with porcelain is that it can crack. If it cracks and you have to have it done over again, it will end up costing more than if you got a mixture of metals. There are certain mixtures of metals that can be done at a reasonable price.

You can have porcelain over metal for posterior teeth and porcelain for anterior
