Thinking of buying an EZGO electric

I am thinking about buying a new EZGO electric. The dealer says I can get 45 miles on a charge and I can buy with either 4 12's or 6 8volt batteries. I am looking for personal experiences and recommendations as well as things to be aware of. Thanks, Mitch

I have a 2013 E-Z Go with the 6 - 8 volt batteries. I regularly get 30 - 35 miles per charge. I am very happy with the cart, but I think 45 miles per charge is overly optimistic.

I have 8 -6 volt batteries and can get about 50 to 60 miles per charge. The average person travels 13 miles per day in their golf cart but some people use it for everything, and might consider a gas cart only.

I also purchased a battery minder device to recharge the batteries as it gives a slow charge and desulfates batteries at the same time,. To be used if you travel less than 15 miles per day. If you travel more than 15 miles, the regular charger should be used. I also had a automatic water refill system added, and I found this to be easy to use, without having to take off caps and manually refill the distilled water levels. I check the water level once per month.

I have found after using it for three days, the regular charger should be used as it never really seems to get back to fully charged. JMHO I always make sure if I am going to travel 30 miles or so to have a fully charged battery.

The beauty of an electric is you don't smell fumes and the drawback is you lose velocity when climbing out of tunnels. I love the smell of fresh air.

A lot depends on the distance, you plan to drive.

I have a 2011 EZGO with 6 8's. The batteries are now 3 1/2 yrs old and we have no problem going 40 + miles/day and the meter still shows 1/2 full (which does not mean you can do another 40 miles) . The AC engine, contrary to an earlier post, completely maintains its speed going up hills. Unlike gas and the older electric designs there is no loss of velocity. We got the water filling system, easy as can be. As we are full time, we have done fine with the regular charger, plugged in when the cart is home.

We will be needing to get new batteries soon but as we really use our cart a lot, we are pleased with the performance and design. Would do it again. We do live centrally in the Villages. If I were buying at Brownwood and thinking I would be using my cart to drive to Lopez, play 18, drive home in the dark with headlights on, that might be stretching the capacity of a charge.

There is a significant difference in the miles/charge if you go with the inferior 4 x 12 configuration.

We have a 2010 EZGO RXV with the 4/12 volt configuration. The cart has over 12,000 trouble free miles on it. I have replaced the batteries 1.5 years ago. Doing it again, I will go with the 6/8 volt system for the added range. Love the AC motor because it maintains speed no matter what the grade of the road is. With just me on board or with 3 additional passengers, it accelerates and hits top speed with no problem. I also love the automatic braking system especially when golfing. The cart activates the brakes automatically within 2 seconds after stopping.

I also purchased the Battery MINDer system for a slower charge, especially when I am not in The Villages for a month or two. That reduces the sulfer buildup of the batteries, thus extending the useful life of them.

so would you guys say on avarge the batterys will last 4-5 years?? that being 6-8volt top brand batterys. and in the 5th year,can you still get 30 miles out of a 5 year old battery?

Had an 08 electric. Got stuck in it 13 times in the first fourteen months I had it. During that period dealer changed out 7 batteries. Dealer first said I drove it too much, then I drove it too little, then I couldn't be chargin it correctly. Logged all my trips for several years. Furthest distance I every got was 27 miles and then it died. Letters to EZ-GO were unanswered. Traded it for a gas last March. Always performed extremely well but for the distance issue.

I have the EZGO 4/12 configuration. I am happy with it but I don't usually go past 10-15 miles a day. And I do that most every day. Over the four year life of the batteries, it starts taking a toll according to the meter.

If I was planning on doing much more than that I think I would switch to gas.

I just had new batteries installed in my 2002 Club Car. They are new model battery called the Ranger. They cost a bit more, but I am told that on a flat straightaway, ( I know, that's not possible) I would get 75 miles. With regular use I can expect to get roughly 50-60 miles.

The Battery Boys. The batteries will run the cart continuously for 160 minutes. Again,this is a new battery by Trojan.

Since I have been hi-jacking your thread, I figured it would be good manners to at least weigh in on your question :). I do not own but I have driven. I love the EZGO AC motor and braking system. They had some issues in 09'ish, but seem to have resolved. IMO I would go directly to 6-8v pack. The fact that the dealer says you could go 45 with either config makes my hair stand up. I would have to ask him/her a follow up question. I am curious what is the cost difference between 4-12 and 6-8?

Not that long ago, when I looked at EZGO in 2010, the ad in the paper said RXV went 60 miles. Four 12 volt batteries going 60 miles? SO much for truth in advertising :evil6:. This was the dealer on 441 north of 42.

Back to my hijack. I question where folks get the numbers. When I say I question, I am not questioning anyone's character (you, BB or Franlk7), I am questioning to learn. I question how deeply my pack is discharged after going 50 miles.

The only numbers I trust are when someone tells me I went here, here, here and here and my ending voltage was xx.x. Even a pack of T105s has a hard time pushing 60 miles without too deep a discharge. From my inexperienced eye the Ranger seems to deliver somewhere between a T890 and a T105.

Maybe putting these in a EZGO RXV which is supposed to be at least 10% more efficient may yield some amazing results.

Anyone know the cost diff of T890 versus Ranger off the top of the head?

Wife bought a new Par Car....went from our home in Hillsborough to Glenview CC, played 18 then to LSL for lunch, down Morse back home. Wife went to Brownwood Publix then Pinelles Library then back home. Don't know what watts, volts, giga thingies divided by something were (because I didn't do well in math and really don't care) but it was still in the green when we plugged it in. Waiting for delivery of my Star EV (we will have his and her carts).....love electric, love quiet and love no fumes.
