When house hunting last year, I liked the looks of solar tubes. In some of the homes, they provide necessary lighting (like in the dining room of a Whispering Pine). However, I'm wondering if you void the warranty on your roof if you have solar tubes installed? Do you know?

Also, for those who have solar tubes, have you ever experienced a leak from them?

THANKS for educating me on this issue.

I called the Warranty division and asked that question before I had mine installed. It does not void any roof warranty - however, they will not cover any leaks around the solar tube which only makes sense. Your solar tube warranty and company installing would be responsible for that.

Obviously a solar tube is a new word (for me) for skylight. Our skylights in our West Chester house are rectangular and have 'bulging' windows on the roof. What does a solar tube look like?

Gracie,

Check out www.thesolarguys.com

flat, flush, round disk mounted in ceiling of the room with a light diffuser cover to let in the light.

Special tube leading up to roof with highly reflective material.

on roof, round bubble dome to let in the light.

I was used to rectangular skylight before too. My solatube is 13" diameter and really lights up a large dining room. The reflective material in the tube is incredible for producing light...even in moonlight can see a faint glow 'up there'.
