I am curious why both the Gun Clubs in The Villages do not list on their websites The Gun Shop/Range on HW44 east of Brownwood a few miles. Seems to be the closest to the Villages, yet the Ocala Gun shops/ranges are recommended even though the distance is a bit furthur?

I have not been there yet but will be going soon. I have seen some posts stating the people were not friendly to the Village. No idea why. They are a business and want to make money. Anyone interested in making a visit send me a PM and we can set up a date to go to the range.

Thanks JR

JG, The Villages Straight Shooters do use The Gun Shop at least twice a month for qualifying meets and at other times for club shoots.

Perhaps it's because the one in Ocala is air conditioned with better ventilation and cooler in the summer months. They also have a classroom that is used by our gun club for some of their classes. You can do the classroom work and then go into the range for shooting.

I have not been to Ocala yet but I will give it a visit. Ventilation is definitely an important factor.

I have used the Rt44 range and found it adequate for a quick gun check or practice session. It may be to small for large groups.

I have been shooting at both places very often and more at the Gunshop on route 44 because it is closer.
The difference in ventilation was not an issue....hence not remarkable....until seeing comments here by some.

don't let the ventilation statements stop anybody from trying it out and forming one's own opinion.....everything in one way or another is relative...eh?

I shot there once for a hour with a large group and my lungs felt like they did before I quit smoking cigarettes 36 years ago. I won't be back.

Rte 44 is definitely hot inside, but you are typically there for just an hour or so. Used to be $10 for an hour, last time I went it was flat $15 for as long as you want. They are close and convenient.

Lance, the owner of rt 44 gun shop and range seems to have 'renewed' his commitment to the range and has cleaned the place up along with improving lighting. He had ammo through the recent shortages and is always helpful though a bit of a character. R&D range in Ocala is always clean and light A/C'd and has nice electronic controls for target distance and return....both good choices :pepper2:

If you visit the one east of Brownwood on Hwy. 44, just don't go expecting the guy there to be Mr. Friendly. That is not his personality. But I was told that he knows his stuff.
